Chapter 100
Before I could talk myself out of it, I was already rushing out of my room. My movements were hurried as I reached Cecilia’s door. But before I could open the door and let myself in like Warren would, I heard a soft gasp from nearby.
I quickly spun around to find that slave…Anna… standing before me. Her eyes were wide, and she was carrying a basket of cleaning supplies.
“Sorry, I didn’t know you were to visit this evening, Your Majesty,” Anna said, bowing her head deeply. “I was coming to clean Cecilia’s room while she is away.”
My brows furrowed.
“What do you mean while she’s away?” I asked, feeling my temper rising before I could think better of it.
It was practically in the middle of the night; sure, the sun would be rising within the hour… but where would Cecilia have gone this early?
“One of the soldiers… I think his name was Jax or Jaxon… had me give her a note,” Anna said, her voice stammering slightly.” He asked to meet her in the gardens.”
Jax.
Of course, she went to see him. I clenched my fists, and I could feel myself on the verge of losing it. It’s been a while since I felt this kind of rage, but the last time it happened, I blacked out and woke up to more dead bodies in my path.
I didn’t wait for her to say anything more; I was already on my way to the gardens. It took me no time to get there.
I could smell her scent, but it was fading. Like she was here… but it wasn’t recent.
I followed the trail just the same, though, until I reached the spot where her scent lingered the most. It was near a few rose bushes; I’ve seen her staring at these very roses, and I wondered if they were her favorite flowers.
Sudden footsteps coming from behind me made me brush the thought of Cecilia’s favorite flowers out of my head, and I spun around only to find one of the palace soldiers approaching. It didn’t take long for his face to come into sight, and I scowled at the sight of him.
“Your Majesty,” Jax greeted, putting his fist over his chest, a common sign of respect. “I’ve been told you’d like to see me.”
“Where is she?” I demanded to know, my voice a dangerous hiss.
Jax frowned and lifted his head.
“I’m sorry?”
“Don’t play stupid, Jax,” I said, spitting his name like it was a bad taste on my tongue. “I want to know where Cecilia is before I lose my goddamn mind. I know she was meeting you here.”
His brows furrowed, a genuine confused look crossing his face.
“I haven’t seen Cecilia,” he said, shaking his head slowly. “Is everything okay? Is she missing?”
He was lying… he had to be lying.
“There was a note from you that told her to meet you here,” I told him, my eyes narrowing. “And now you’re standing in front of me… in this very spot. It’s not a coincidence.”
“I swear, I didn’t write any note, Your Majesty,” Jax said, lifting his hands in defense. “I’m not sure who wrote her a note, but it certainly wasn’t me. I was just with Landon for most of the day. If you don’t believe me… You can ask him yourself. But I promise you, there was no note.”

“Then why are you here?” I asked, my voice a growl now. I wasn’t buying into this bullshit; he had to be lying.
That was the only thing that would make sense
“I ran into Prince Caden while was on patrol, and he told me you wanted to see me here,” he replied, making my chest feel
tight.
