Still You Still Me Still Falling novel Chapter 93

Even she had lost to him spectacularly in the past, hadn't she?

Sheila snapped out of her daze and softly coaxed the little one in her arms.

About ten minutes later, Edmond came downstairs.

He had changed into a dark gray, two-piece loungewear set with a small lapel. It gave him a more approachable vibe, making him look younger and more vibrant than when he was in formal attire.

He sat on the opposite sofa and reached out to Tilly. "Come here, let Daddy hold you."

Tilly whimpered, nestling closer into Sheila's embrace, and shook her head.

Edmond turned his gaze to Sheila. "About what we discussed before... Can you stay? It's only a few days until the holidays anyway."

Sheila shook her head. "Sorry, I can't."

She then asked, "Were you okay to shower just now? How's your wound?"

She had completely forgotten about it earlier.

"It's fine," Edmond replied casually. "I told you, it's just a minor scratch."

"That's good."

"You really can't stay?"

Sheila shook her head again.

Edmond reached out directly and, with a hint of force, pulled Tilly into his own arms.

Tilly froze for a second before bursting into heart-wrenching sobs.

Sheila couldn't stand the sound of it.

Holding Tilly with one arm, Edmond looked down at Sheila. "If you feel bad for her, then stay. Otherwise, she's only going to cry harder."

Sheila's outstretched hand paused in mid-air.

She gritted her teeth, turned around, and went to gather her things.

The child's cries tore at Sheila's heart, but she knew that the more they dragged this out, the harder it would be for Tilly.

Because she had to leave eventually.

It was better to just make a clean break.

"The car is outside. I'll have the driver take you back," Edmond stated. "I'm taking Tilly upstairs."

Tilly reached out for Sheila while crying, but Edmond remained expressionless, gently pulling her little arm back and carrying her up the stairs.

Sheila felt absolutely awful. Clenching her jaw, with red-rimmed eyes, she walked out of the room.

Even after getting into the car, she felt like she could still hear Tilly's crying.

She regretted it.
