He still couldn't fully grasp Edmond's true feelings toward Sheila.
But there was absolutely no denying that she was the only woman Edmond had ever treated as an exception.
Based on that alone, Dante knew better than to disrespect her.
When they reached the door, he knocked and opened it. "Mr. Halley, Ms. Jensen is here to see you."
"Who?" Edmond was still hooked up to an IV, leaning against the headboard, reading emails on a tablet.
"Me."
Sheila stepped out from behind Dante.
Edmond's eyes darkened noticeably. He gave her one glance before quickly looking away. "What are you doing here?"
Judging by his tone, Dante knew he wasn't actually furious.
He quickly excused himself. "I need to go handle the medical bills. I'll leave you two to talk."
He slipped out, closing the door firmly behind him.
Sheila walked over to the bed. "Have you thought of the three conditions yet?"
Edmond's voice was freezing. "So you aren't here to visit me. Shouldn't you at least pretend to ask how I'm feeling?"
"Oh," she replied dryly. "I thought you hated fake pleasantries."
"At least you admit you're fake."
She choked on her retort.
Reminding herself that he was a patient, she decided to let it slide.
"Cecil is staying here too, isn't he?" Edmond asked.
She gave a brief nod.
Those two couldn't stand the sight of each other, but they definitely had their people keeping tabs on the other's status.
"So, you came to see him, and just dropped by here out of convenience?"
"Can we skip the pointless interrogations?" she asked.
"Don't forget who's begging who," he sneered. "I don't need your approval to say whatever I want."
Sheila forcefully swallowed her temper. "Fine. What is it?"
