"Forget it if you don't want to." Edmond stood up. "We're done here."
He turned to leave.
Sheila leaped up. "Wait!"
He glanced back. "What?"
She was desperate to reason with him. "I just want to see her. I adore her, I want to keep her company, and I would never hurt her. Why are you making this so difficult?"
"I didn't say no."
"You're demanding three conditions right off the bat! How is that not making things difficult?"
"You say you care about her, and I'm supposed to just take your word for it? I need to see your sincerity before I let you anywhere near my daughter."
"I..." Sheila was fuming. "You know exactly what kind of person I am!"
"I thought I did." He casually adjusted his cufflink. "But now... I find it hard to trust someone who treats everyone's feelings like a game."
"Don't throw stones from a glass house," she shot back. "If we're talking about trustworthiness, you aren't exactly a saint."
"Then there's no point in continuing this conversation."
As he stepped away, she practically yelled, "What are the three conditions?"
That actually surprised him.
"Do you genuinely care about a child, or do you just care about... *my* child?"
"Don't flatter yourself," she spat. "If it were up to me, I'd never look at your face again. But I felt a real connection with Tilly, and I genuinely love her. I promise that every time I see her, I will have absolutely zero interaction with you!"
"Even if the conditions are unreasonable?"
"Then forget it," she snapped. "No matter how much I love her, I'm not going to sell my soul. Worst case scenario... I'll just have my own kid someday."
