Still You Still Me Still Falling novel Chapter 34

By the time Sheila received another call from Laura Ladd, the city had already seen its second snowfall.

This winter seemed exceptionally brutal, with temperatures plummeting into the teens.

Sheila rarely left the house, working day and night in the lab.

Simon couldn't stand watching her push herself, practically dragging her outside for fresh air every now and then, terrified she was going to collapse from exhaustion.

She had just woken up when Laura called.

"Tilly wants to see me?"

Laura was out of options. The little girl was sick, her fever spiking to 102 degrees.

To make matters worse, Edmond was out of the country.

When Sheila had first learned that Tilly was Edmond's daughter, she had made up her mind never to see her again.

But hearing about Tilly's condition, she caved and agreed to visit the hospital.

Tilly was staying in a private VIP suite at a high-end hospital. The decor rivaled a five-star hotel, completely devoid of the usual sterile chill of a medical facility.

When Sheila arrived, the little girl was asleep.

She must have been crying; her eyelashes were damp, and her tiny cheeks were flushed red from the fever.

Her chubby little hand rested weakly in Laura's palm.

"Sheila," Laura whispered when she saw her. "You made it."

Sheila didn't know why, but seeing Tilly like this made her heart ache.

Even knowing she was the child of Edmond and Jewel Baker.

Edmond was on a business trip abroad, but what about Jewel?

Why wasn't she taking care of her daughter?

Just because she was pregnant, did that mean she could completely ignore her daughter?

Thinking this, Sheila couldn't help but ask, "Why hasn't her mother come?"

A flash of sorrow crossed Laura's face.

She naturally didn't dare say much about Edmond's private life.

She answered vaguely, "Her mother... is also abroad."

To Sheila's ears, that meant Jewel had gone on the business trip with Edmond.

Edmond went for work, but what was Jewel doing? How could she comfortably leave such a young child with a nanny?
