Still You Still Me Still Falling novel Chapter 35

In just a few short meetings, she had already carved out a special place in her heart for this little girl.

If possible... she wanted absolutely nothing to do with Edmond or Jewel Baker.

Yet fate had a wicked sense of humor.

It actually made her fall in love with their daughter.

It was painfully ironic.

But she couldn't control her own heart.

The little girl was sick, and it broke her heart.

Since it was already early morning and her sleepiness had faded, Sheila simply stayed seated by the bed, scrolling through research files on her phone.

Around six o'clock, she heard movement at the door.

She glanced over, instinctively expecting it to be Laura.

Instead, the door opened, and a tall man stepped into the room.

Edmond.

Sheila stared at him in utter shock.

Wasn't he out of the country?

Just as she was about to stand up, the little girl stirred.

She waved her tiny arm weakly, gave a small shudder, and then her lip quivered, and she let out a whimpering cry.

Edmond reacted even faster than Sheila.

He strode into the room, tossed his coat onto the end of the bed, and leaned over to scoop Tilly into his arms.

The little girl opened her sleepy eyes mid-whimper. Seeing her father, she rubbed her cheek against his and mumbled in a sweet, tiny voice, "Daddy..."

"Daddy's back. Does it hurt anywhere else?"

It was the first time Sheila had witnessed firsthand how Edmond interacted with his daughter.

He was so incredibly gentle, his voice dripping with absolute adoration.

It immediately reminded Sheila that this man used to whisper to her with that exact same deep, devoted tenderness.

She shook her head, forcing those thoughts out of her mind.

Whatever they used to have was dead and buried.

The Edmond standing before her now had absolutely nothing to do with her.
