Still You Still Me Still Falling novel Chapter 31

He brushed it off.

Edmond Halley walked down a different hallway by himself.

A few minutes later, he stood outside an office.

It was an ordinary room, lacking even a nameplate on the door.

Sheila Jensen had been staring at her research files until she was dizzy. She grabbed a drink of water and got up to use the restroom.

Pulling the door open, she gasped, stumbling back two steps and nearly falling over.

A tall figure was standing right outside her office door.

Anyone would have been startled.

Sheila knew the investors were coming today, but she hadn't expected Edmond to show up in person.

Guests were guests. Sheila gave a polite nod. "Mr. Halley."

She only hoped that his investment in this project had absolutely nothing to do with her.

His attitude from that day was still fresh in her mind. Ending up at her office door today had to be a mere accident.

She kindly pointed out, "The lab is on the third floor, to the right."

Edmond shot her a look but didn't say a word.

Her patience running thin, Sheila decided to ignore him and headed straight for the restroom.

By the time she returned, the tall figure at her door was gone.

Wiping her hands, she walked into her office, only to freeze the moment she looked up.

Edmond was standing in front of her display cabinet with his back to her, examining the items inside.

She thought he had left.

What was he doing in her office?

Why was he still here?

The cabinet was filled with the little plushies and trinkets Sheila had bought over the years.

She had always been a rational person since childhood, caring little for makeup and fashion, and far more interested in math and science.

Her only slightly childish hobby was a love for all sorts of fuzzy stuffed animals and keychains.

Instead of files or books, the shelves were lined with various little dolls.

Edmond had known about this preference of hers.

Back when they lived together, he had dedicated an entire room to custom display cases just to hold all of Sheila's favorite things.

It seemed her hobby hadn't changed a bit.

Why was it that someone could love an object for so many years?

Yet loving a person seemed to come with an expiration date.
