Still You Still Me Still Falling novel Chapter 26

Sheila stared right back at him, any lingering affection completely stripped from her gaze. "Business is business. Mr. Halley's investment has nothing to do with me, which is exactly what I was hoping for."

"Of course it has nothing to do with you..."

Before Edmond could finish, a knock sounded at the door.

The door pushed open, and Jewel Baker appeared in the doorway.

She smiled brightly. "Are you still bus... Sheila?"

Edmond looked surprised. "Why are you here?"

Jewel held up the bag in her hands. "Brought something for Tilly."

She turned her attention back to Sheila. "I didn't expect to see you here... Please, go on. I'll get going..."

"Ms. Baker," Sheila spoke up. "Mr. Halley and I are just discussing business, so please don't misunderstand. I'll get going now. My boyfriend is waiting downstairs for me."

Terrified Jewel might get the wrong idea, she deliberately name-dropped Simon.

Jewel gave her a deeply perplexed look, confused by both her tone and her unprompted explanation.

It was just weird.

Just as Jewel opened her mouth to say something, Edmond cut in with a frosty command. "Let her go."

Sheila stormed out without a backward glance.

Jewel wanted to chase after her, but she had absolutely no standing or reason to explain anything to Sheila.

With a sigh, she held out the bag to Edmond. "Sorry, I guess my timing was off."

Edmond took it, immediately pulled out his phone, and transferred money to her. "Thanks."

"You really are..." Jewel was speechless. "Tilly calls me Auntie, so I make her some food, but you insist on paying me every single time."

Even though Tilly wasn't particularly attached to her, their two families had a long-standing history.

"I don't like owing you," Edmond replied smoothly. "Was there anything else?"

"No, that's it." Jewel studied his face, unable to detect even a flicker of emotion. "Are you two... really over for good?"

"If you're done, you can leave," Edmond said, already turning to walk out of the conference room, bag in hand.

Jewel didn't linger and left as well.

Downstairs, Sheila quickly hailed a cab.

Her mind remained sharp and rational, but more often than not, the heart refused to listen to logic.

She had loved him once, and now she hated him.

The vicious intertwining of love and hate only deepened the agony.
