"Don't be so rigid, Clarence!" Lanny urged. "We're talking about Edmond Halley. Who cares if he's married? Even if he has a dozen mistresses, just being one of them is a golden ticket!"
"What the hell is wrong with you?" Clarence hissed. "You want my niece to be the other woman? I'm telling you right now, absolutely not!"
"It's a different world out there, Clarence. People care about money, not morals," Lanny argued. "I'm not saying I want her to be a mistress, but the guy is obviously obsessed with her. Think about it. If they didn't have history, how the hell could she summon a titan like him with a single phone call?"
Clarence's stomach twisted.
He had just wanted to repay Lanny's favor. He hadn't thought about the dark implications of what this meeting actually meant.
Was he practically handing Sheila over to a predator?
No way!
If his wife found out about this, she would literally murder him.
He spun around and stormed back toward the private room.
"Wait!" Lanny grabbed his arm desperately. "If we secure Halley as a contact, my company—hey! Clarence!"
Clarence shoved him off roughly.
A wave of cold dread washed over him. They had left Sheila completely alone in a room with a powerful, potentially dangerous man. What if he tried something?
In a panic, he threw open the door without bothering to knock.
"Sheila!" he barked.
Both Edmond and Sheila snapped their heads up to look at him.
For a split second, Clarence's brain short-circuited.
Stripped of all the billionaire status and corporate intimidation... they actually looked stunningly perfect together.
But he shook off the thought immediately. "Mr. Halley, my deepest apologies. There's been a family emergency. I need to take Sheila home immediately."
Sheila's pulse spiked in alarm.
*An emergency? Did something happen to Aunt Nadine?*
Clarence shot her a hard look. "Come on, Sheila. We're leaving."
She didn't hesitate. She grabbed her purse and hurried out the door.
Lanny couldn't do a damn thing to stop them, forced to watch his golden ticket walk out of the restaurant.
