Still You Still Me Still Falling novel Chapter 139

At the end of the day, Sheila was the one who had orchestrated this mess.

Morally, she owed him for tonight.

"You drag me out to dinner, and then you just ditch me?" Edmond didn't waste time on pleasantries. "Is that how you treat people?"

"I told you not to come," she pointed out.

"Then why the hell did you call me?"

"I was forced to!"

"Oh, you were forced? What about me? I'm the completely innocent party here!"

Sheila winced. He actually had a point.

After a brief silence, she sighed. "Alright, fine. You called. What do you want?"

"Aside from the calls with Tilly, didn't you explicitly state you were never going to contact me again?"

Sheila was entirely at a loss for words.

Even if she was pressured into it, she was the one who dialed his number. That was an undeniable fact.

"You broke your promise," Edmond accused smoothly. "You went back on your word."

"Wow, look at you using all those big words," she snarked. "Such a man of principle. Always so steadfast and true."

Edmond knew she was mocking him.

But petty insults like that didn't even register on his radar anymore.

"Say whatever you want," he replied dismissively. "I'll have my team keep an eye on that Lanny guy's business. You begged me for a favor, Sheila, and I delivered. Now, how are you going to thank me?"

"I never asked you to—"

"You calling me means you needed something. Are you seriously trying to back out now?"

"No." Defeated and exhausted, she gave up the fight. "I'm not."

She did it, so she had to own it.

And honestly, Edmond really was the victim in this specific scenario.

She had dragged him into this nightmare with one phone call.

A soft, triumphant chuckle echoed through the receiver.

Sheila bit her lip. "So? How do you want me to thank you?"

"That's for you to figure out. You shouldn't be asking me."

"Fine. I'll buy you a nice gift to show my appreciation."

"A gift?" Edmond scoffed. "You know me well enough to know exactly what kind of 'gifts' actually catch my attention."

"You..." Of course she knew his standards were astronomically high. "A gift's true value isn't measured in dollars."
