Serendipity's Secret (Melanie) novel Chapter 17

Chapter 17

Edward had taken a few days off for his wedding. The Graysons wanted him to take Melanie on a trip during that time

Even in the countryside, it was common for newlyweds to take a short trip to the city for a honeymoon, even if it was brief. Despite their rushed wedding, Edward didn’t want it to feel too simple or hasty

To give the couple some privacy, Sapphire had already explained the situation to Nellie the night before. Nellie, being an understanding child, had readily agreed without any fuss when she had leamed it was for Melanie’s sake

Once Luca and Sapphire left, Yarger sidled up to Edward

Edward, did you and MelanieLast night…” Yaeger hesitated, unable to picture his normally distant, emotionally reserved brother getting intimate with Melanie

It all telt so strange. Things had progressed so quickly in such a short time, just like something out of a dream. The idea that Edward might have been taken advantage of by Melanie made Yeeger feel uncomfortable

Hearing the question, Edward frowned instinctively. That’s none of your business. Get to work.”

Yaeger didn’t dare push further and quietly left

Realizing it was getting late, Edward decided to wake Melanie up for breakfast. Despite the family’s assumptions about what might have happened the night before, he knew the truththey hadn’t done anything except share an awloward kiss

Thinking she was still asleep, he entered the room without knocking. But the moment he opened the door, he saw her standing by the wardrobe, stark naked, grabbing her clothes. Hernightgown lay discarded nearby

Although she quickly crossed her arms over her chest, he had already seen more than enough

Sorry, I thought you were still asleep,he blurted out, retreating from the room, clearly flustered

Melanie’s face flushed red, thinking he had definitely seen everything. She couldn’t help but think about the unfortunate timing. Of all moments, why did he have to walk in right when she was changing

Quickly getting dressed, she bit her lip before finally stepping out of the room. She let it slide, thinking she couldn’t blame him

After all, she had practically thrown herself at him in her sleep last night. She would just call it even

Go get something to eat. Mom left some breakfast for you,Edward said, rubbing his nose with his index finger as if trying to brush off the awkwardness. Melanie nodded and headed straight for the kitchen

After she finished her meal, Edward spoke again. My parents want me to take you out for a bit, since my job keeps me busy and I only have four days off, we won’t be able to travel far. How about we just spend some time around here? Does that sound good to you?”

She didn’t mind. Back where she was from, she had known some friends who hadn’t even bothered to go on a honeymoon, so she wasn’t bothered by it. Plus, she was eager to check out the local market and see what business opportunities were like around here

She had heard that the 1980s were a golden era for malding moneyopportunities were everywhere, and even the most unlikely ventures could take off

She was obsessed with financial security. Without money, she felt vulnerable, so making money was a must

That sounds good. Should we head out now?she asked

Yeah”

Give me a minute. I’ll just freshen up.She decided she wanted to wash her hair before going out

Edward didn’t mind waiting. He sat down on the couch with a newspaper while Melanie got ready. Once she was done, the two of them headed out
