No More Mrs. Forgotten novel Chapter 13

Sharon looked at him. "You still didn't give me a straight answer. The baby is Caleb's, and I'd be willing to help. But that care should come from my own free will. If I had suggested bringing Emeline to our house, that would be my business. That would mean I was willing. But right now... you're the one demanding it. You're forcing it on me. And when I say I don't want to, you try to strong-arm and guilt me into it. And because I'm still saying no, you call me hysterical, unreasonable, and a bad friend!"

"I don't have the energy for this," York said coldly.

With that, he stepped out and slammed the door with a loud thud, making Sharon jump.

Tears streamed uncontrollably from her eyes. She immediately threw her door open, scrambling out to chase after him and block his path.

York was incredibly tall, easily clearing six foot one. Though Sharon was five-foot-seven, she still looked incredibly small standing in front of him.

"Answer my question. Answer me straight!" Sharon tilted her head up slightly to meet his gaze, desperately clinging to her demand for an answer.

Seeing that the tension between them had reached an absolute breaking point, York finally gave her one. "Even if you were pregnant, you should still take care of Emeline."

Staring at the icy indifference in his eyes, Sharon suddenly laughed. She had known the answer all along, hadn't she? Yet she had insisted on seeking out this humiliation.

She truly... had brought this upon herself!

"I understand." Sharon nodded, her heart convulsing with pain as her tears refused to stop falling.

York's brows knitted tightly together. "Even if you were pregnant, you still have your husband. How can you compare yourself to her? Besides, you owe her. Have you forgotten?"

His words made Sharon draw in a sharp breath of cold air. She stared at him. "I've explained that countless times... and didn't you... didn't you believe me?"

The "debt" York was referring to was the fact that, due to a chaotic accident, she had ended up in the same bed as him. At the time, York and Emeline hadn't officially started dating, but their romantic tension was so obvious that they were practically together in everything but name. Because she and York had slept together then, she was effectively branded a homewrecker who had stolen him away from Emeline.

But it really had been an accident. She hadn't plotted anything, and she had no idea how it had even happened.

Later, Sharon had explained herself repeatedly. Given that they had all grown up together and knew each other's characters well, York eventually believed she was "innocent."

But now she realized that just because he believed her, it didn't mean she didn't still owe Emeline in his eyes.

Even so, Sharon absolutely could not accept this man's attitude and choice. Even if she were carrying his child, she would still be expected to care for another pregnant woman. And it wasn't as if her care was entirely necessary.

And yet... what should have been an optional courtesy was, in her husband's eyes, a mandatory obligation that she had to fulfill personally—even if she were pregnant, and without any room for negotiation!
