No More Mrs. Forgotten novel Chapter 44

If this was a game of chess, they were all going to play.

Matching her move for move.

Adele chimed in, "Exactly. If you want to act, then obviously... the more money, the better. That industry burns through cash anyway. Don't worry, Emeline, whether you want an A-list Hollywood-level team or unlimited funding, it's not a problem."

Adele laid down the law, making it sound perfectly reasonable.

It would have been completely inappropriate for Emeline to argue against that.

But Emeline simply countered, "True. More money is always better. But does Josiah understand the film industry? Does he know how to act? Can he run lines and rehearse plays with me?"

That response was a massive headache.

Given Josiah's intense, commanding aura, asking him to act in a play was practically a joke.

Josiah's throat tightened; he genuinely didn't have a comeback for that.

He was just about to say he could hire a busload of actors to rehearse with her.

But York finally spoke up. "Enough. Emeline and I have already made an agreement, so let's stop making a fuss out of this."

Adele looked like she was ready to throw a punch. She couldn't help but shoot an anxious glance at Sharon.

Sharon stood there, looking completely numb.

With the situation escalating like this, Sharon was basically going to be cornered into agreeing.

She didn't even have a valid excuse to say no.

Not even the combined efforts of the group had been able to stop this trainwreck.

The conversation could have temporarily ended there, to be dealt with later.

But Emeline looked up at York, her red-rimmed eyes filled with apparent confusion, and asked timidly, "York, didn't you say Sharon agreed?"

Then she immediately furrowed her brow, looking incredibly troubled, and asked, "Is Sharon..."

"No!" York cut her off instantly. "Sharon agreed."

He had told Emeline that earlier when they were alone.

But it was a blatant lie, because Sharon had never agreed and had been fighting him on it the entire time.

Now, saying it right in front of Sharon's face... for some reason, York felt a suffocating tightness in his chest.

He was actually terrified that Sharon would ruthlessly expose his lie right then and there.
