I Stopped Waiting and Started Loving novel Chapter 6

Jasper held it in the entire drive, but finally broke while waiting at a red light.

"Director Vance, should I wire her the remaining four and a half million?"

Quentin snapped the marriage certificate shut, his expression cold. "No need. She asked for five hundred thousand."

His voice was devoid of warmth, bordering on vicious.

Jasper quietly shut his mouth.

Fine. As long as the boss was happy.

As the car drove on, Jasper stole another glance through the rearview mirror.

"Director Vance, the York family called again, asking when you'll return."

Quentin didn't even bat an eyelid. "I'm not."

Jasper tactfully changed the subject. "Should I drop you off at the apartment first?"

"Yes."

Jasper hesitated for a moment but pushed through anyway. "Dr. Lennox said your visual impairments have been flaring up more frequently lately. It's best if you don't go out alone anymore."

Quentin's expression instantly darkened. "You talk too much."

Jasper clamped his mouth shut, a cold sweat breaking out on the back of his neck.

A few seconds later, his sense of duty forced him to add one last thing.

"When Ms. Hayes moves in tomorrow, I'll go over all the medical care instructions with her. However, about your eyes..."

"Don't tell her."

Quentin leaned back in his seat, his features dripping with frost. "She just needs to follow the contract."

...

By the time Bonnie rushed back to the rural clinic with the Vitalis Heart Elixir, it was already midnight.

Once the medicine was administered, her mother's tightly furrowed brow finally relaxed, and her breathing steadied.

The heavy weight in Bonnie's chest lifted, and she collapsed into the chair beside the bed, pulling out her phone.

When she looked at the screen, she jolted.

Her phone had somehow been on silent, and the screen was flooded with missed calls and messages.

Jasper had sent the apartment's location.

[Ms. Hayes, this is the address to Mr. Vance's apartment. Please move in by nine o'clock tomorrow morning.]

The message was sent two hours ago.

Bonnie quickly replied: [I'm so sorry, Jasper. I just saw your message. I will definitely be there on time tomorrow.]

After sending that, her eyes drifted to another chat window.

Parrish.

Bonnie stared at the name for a long time, let out a self-deprecating laugh, and opened the conversation.
