As a legitimate medical school graduate, she had slaved away at Davenport just to become an assistant physician.
Why did Bonnie, a country bumpkin without even a basic license, get to shadow the top doctors the second she walked through the doors?!
Jealousy gnawed at her heart like a venomous snake.
Gritting her teeth, Seraphina sprinted back to her office, locked the balcony door, and dialed Parrish's number.
It rang three times before he answered.
"Seraphina, what's wrong?"
Parrish's voice was gentle, though it carried a faint, barely noticeable trace of exhaustion.
The moment Seraphina spoke, tears spilled down her face. She sounded impossibly wronged, yet desperately considerate.
"Parrish... maybe you should just give the apartment you bought me to Bonnie instead."
The line fell quiet for a second. "What nonsense is this? I gave it to you, so it's yours. Just live there and stop overthinking."
Seraphina sniffled, her voice choking with sobs.
"But... but Bonnie is having such a hard time right now. She finally managed to get a job here at Davenport, but the commute from where she lives takes over three hours round trip. It's too exhausting for her."
Parrish sounded entirely caught off guard. "She got a job at Davenport? She couldn't even pass her licensing exam. How did she get in?"
That was exactly the opening Seraphina was waiting for.
She lowered her voice, dripping with fake concern while heavily implying the worst.
"I don't know for sure... I just saw Dr. Zimmerman treating her exceptionally well. He personally took her into his private office and locked the door behind them. They didn't come out for a long time."
"Parrish, I'm really worried about her. Do you think she did something... immoral, just to get back at me... no, just to force her way into the same hospital as me?"
"You know how impossibly high Davenport's standards are. Without connections or a license, there is absolutely no way to get in."
Dead silence echoed over the phone.
Parrish's grip on his phone tightened, a dark, vicious shadow sweeping across his eyes.
In his mind, Bonnie was someone with unshakeable pride, proud to the bone.
But now, to get into Davenport, she was willing to take filthy shortcuts? Had she really attached herself to another man?
