He spoke with clinical professionalism, as if merely settling a debt without an ounce of extra emotion.
But Lennox still raised an eyebrow, hardly able to believe his ears.
He had known Quentin for years. The man was as cold as a block of thousand-year ice. When had he ever gone out of his way to speak up for someone?
Let alone personally meddling in the hospital's hiring process.
This was a historic first.
Lennox immediately smiled and made the guarantee. "Alright, if the boss gives the word, she stays."
He rubbed his chin, a glimmer of gossipy amusement in his eyes, unable to resist poking the bear.
"But Quentin, you seem pretty fond of this girl, don't you? If you stick her in the hospital, aren't you worried we'll steal away all her time with you?"
Quentin closed the file, casually tossing it onto the desk as a cold shadow fell over his eyes.
"I despise having people hovering around me all day."
He said it with biting indifference, making it sound as if he was just trying to get rid of her and nothing more.
Lennox looked at the man's stubbornly cold face and silently clicked his tongue.
If he truly just wanted her out of his hair, he could have just ignored her entirely. Why go out of his way to secure her a job?
And calling it *back pay*.
This method of taking care of someone was entirely out of character for Quentin.
Lennox shot him a deeply meaningful look.
"Right, understood."

Bonnie sat numbly on a bus stop bench, gripping the handle of her suitcase.
She stared blankly at the busy street, completely lost on where to go next.
She had canceled her rental lease.
She couldn't go back to Riverstone Heights.
And she absolutely couldn't go to her mother's place and worry her.
Just as she was staring vacantly at the pavement, the phone in her pocket buzzed.
It was a text message. Distracted, she swiped open the screen.
[Davenport International Medical Center: Dear Ms. Bonnie Hayes, following a comprehensive review, you have passed the interview for the Holistic Clinic. You are hereby hired as a Clinical Intern. Please bring your relevant identification to the clinic before 2:00 PM today to complete your onboarding.]
Bonnie froze.
She read the text three times over just to make sure she wasn't hallucinating.
