After a long silence, Gillian forced the words out through a trembling voice. "I'm not keeping it..."

She took a deep breath and offered a forced smile. "Please don't tell him."

Seeing that smile sent an inexplicable, sharp ache through Miles's chest.

He offered a warm, reassuring smile in return. "Of course not. He doesn't deserve you."

Late that night, York returned home, bringing the chilling night air in with him.

Gillian was sitting in the living room reviewing medical files. Wearing a simple pajama set, her frame looked incredibly thin and frail. The man frowned slightly; she had indeed lost a lot of weight.

Hearing him walk in, she looked up. He was carrying several high-end shopping bags filled with premium health supplements.

He walked over and tossed them onto the table in front of her.

"What is this?" Gillian met his deep, penetrating gaze. His eyes were, as always, completely devoid of any warmth or emotion.

York sat across from her, casually crossing his legs. He stared at her and said flatly, "I bought these for Hailey. She can't eat them because she's pregnant, so you can have them."

Gillian glanced at the exorbitant supplements, feeling a sharp, agonizing prick in her chest.

He was bringing his mistress's unwanted leftovers home to give to his actual wife. Her soon-to-be ex-husband truly was the lowest scum on earth.

She looked at him with utter indifference. "I'm not a garbage collector. If she doesn't want them, throw them out. Why bring them to me?"

"You'd really throw them away?" York stared intensely at her face. "Don't I know you better than that?"

He knew she wouldn't bear to throw something like this away.

She was still wearing pajamas she bought when she was eighteen.
