I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 11

That tender, lingering voice was enough to make Gillian Jordan’s heart tremble. She had loved him for a solid eight years and been married to him for five, yet the only time she ever heard him call her his wife was when he mistook her for someone else. It was laughable.

The man nuzzled into the crook of her neck, his scent wrapping around her, thick with the smell of alcohol and mingled with Hailey Sinclair’s perfume.

For some reason, that particular fragrance felt exceptionally pungent.

Gillian frowned and tried to push him away, but he only pulled her in tighter. "Don't push me away, wife. Don't leave me, please..."

He was completely drunk, clinging to her relentlessly. His voice was husky and magnetic, laced with a deep, inseparable longing.

The more he acted like this, the harder it was for Gillian to endure the suffocating ache in her chest. So, this was how he acted around Hailey.

Towards her, he only ever showed endless indifference. He was only passionate during those intimate moments, and the second it was over, he immediately reverted back to his cold, detached self.

York Foster wrapped his arms around her waist, his hands growing restless as they teasingly tugged at her clothes, sending a rush of electricity through her.

Gillian furrowed her brows and clamped a hand over his. "York, I'm not your wife. We're getting a divorce."

The man’s hand instantly froze on her waist.

Time ticked by, minute after minute, and he made no further movement.

"York?"

There was no response, only the steady sound of his breathing.

Gillian sat up in the dim light of the night lamp and looked down at the sleeping man, a wave of bitter irony washing over her.

The man she had chased so desperately for eight years couldn't compare to a girl he had only known for a few months.

She turned and went to sleep in the guest bedroom. Since they were getting a divorce, there was no need for them to share a bed anymore. He was probably disgusted by it, anyway.

-

The next morning, Gillian woke up to find York already gone.

Playing the role of the perfect, devoted boyfriend, he had likely gone to drive Hailey to work.

Sure enough, the moment she arrived at the hospital entrance, she spotted them. The young girl was clinging to York's arm, a radiant smile on her face.
