Third Person’s POV

Seraphina’s eyes stung slightly, and she instinctively turned her face away. The faint, fragile mate bond deep within her chest stirred with a dull ache.

Seeing this, the therapist quietly made an excuse to leave the room.

“Can we talk for a moment?” Seraphina asked.

Mortimer’s body slowly stiffened. After a long pause, he finally answered in a low voice, “Okay.”

A large park stretched outside the rehabilitation room.

Mortimer sat silently in his wheelchair as Seraphina pushed him from behind.

“Sera.” Mortimer suddenly called her name.

Seraphina stopped.

“Saving you was my choice. You don’t have to feel guilty.” Mortimer spoke in a hoarse voice.

Seraphina didn’t answer. Her fingers tightened around the wheelchair handle before she even realized it.

“Do you remember what I told you when we were trapped beneath the ruins?”

Seraphina’s voice trembled slightly.

At the same time, she felt the man before her tense up further. Even the wolf within him seemed to grow restless.

“I said that if we made it out alive, I would give you another chance. We could start over.”

Seraphina stepped in front of Mortimer and crouched down, gently taking his hand. “I meant what I said. We can start over.”

Mortimer’s fingers curled into a fist instinctively.

After a long moment, he slowly pulled his hand away from hers.

He avoided her gaze and let out a bitter laugh. “Let’s forget it.”

“Mortimer…”

“Sera.”

He cut her off. From the beginning, he had never looked at her. His gaze remained lowered.

“I don’t want you to feel like you owe me anything because I saved you. That’s not fair to you. Even if we got back

together, this relationship wouldn’t be healthy.”

“That’s not what this is. I’m not doing this because…”

“Forget it, Sera.”

Mortimer cut her off before she could finish. He couldn’t bring himself to hear the rest.

His hand resting on the wheelchair armrest trembled slightly. “Let’s leave it here.

“I heard from Professor Bauer that you applied to continue your studies in Germany.”

Seraphina froze for a moment, then nodded. “Yes. I was thinking…”

That’s good.” Mortimer’s voice trembled. “You should go, Sera. Don’t waste your time on me.”

After saying that, he gripped the wheelchair armrests and turned himself away from her. “Go back first, I’ll stay here for a while.”

Seraphina stood there in silence, watching him for a long time before softly replying. “Okay.”

She walked over to him. “I’m leaving.”

After walking a short distance, she stopped.

When she looked back at Mortimer, he was still sitting there motionless, lost in thought. Even when she waved goodbye, he didn’t react.

After leaving the Healing Center, Seraphina headed to the office of Iceblade Healing Center’s chief surgeon, the doctor who had overseen Mortimer’s entire operation.

She knocked on his office door. “Richard.”

The man looked up. When he saw Seraphina, surprise flashed across his face. “Sera? What brings you here?”

Richard Mason had once been Garfield’s student and was Seraphina’s senior. After graduation, he joined the surgical department at Iceblade Healing Center and eventually became the center’s chief neurosurgeon.

No one knew about the connection between Richard and Seraphina.

“Richard, can I see Mortimer’s medical records?”

The moment Seraphina finished speaking, Richard’s expression changed slightly.

A hint of hesitation appeared on his face.

“Those are confidential patient records. I can’t just show them to anyone.”

Especially for an Alpha like Mortimer, whose condition was closely tied to the business interests of the Craig Group, his medical records were strictly confidential.

“Richard, did you forget? I’m his mate.”

Seraphina looked Richard straight in the eyes, her expression calm and confident.

She was taking a gamble. She was betting that very few people knew she and Mortimer had already dissolved their mate bond.

Back then, everyone knew that she and Mortimer were mates. Thanks to Vivian’s public stunt, the news had spread across the entire internet.

“Richard, as his mate, I have the right to know about his condition.”
