Chapter 304
Third Person’s POV
That day, after her shift, Seraphina walked out of the Healing Center, ready to head home just like any
other day.
At the entrance, she was surprised to see Logan, the police officer she had met the other day, walking toward her..
“Seraphina,” Logan said, his expression solemn.
An uneasy feeling settled deep in her chest.
“This is from Caldwell. He asked me to give it to you.” Logan handed her an envelope.
A knot of dread tightened in Seraphina’s chest. With trembling fingers, she took the letter and choked out, “Is he. all right?”
“He’s dead.” Logan’s voice was hoarse, tinged with sadness.
“He helped us dismantle the entire criminal network operating within the Canyon Technology Group. During the arrest of one of the shareholders, he was shot in the heart. Despite his extraordinary healing abilities as a werewolf, we still lost him.”
Tears spilled from Seraphina’s eyes.
She had been right.
He hadn’t turned himself in-but he’d done what needed to be done, in his own way.
After Logan left, Seraphina opened the letter Caldwell had left for her.
“Sera, I’m sorry. I let you down.
“I never wanted to hurt you, yet I ended up hurting you over and over again.
You were right. The pain I caused you was real, and I have no right to ask for your forgiveness.
“I lived for one thing only: to destroy the Blade pack. Yet, the truth has made a mockery of me. For over twenty years, I’ve hated the wrong people. My lifelong quest for vengeance? Nothing but a pathetic joke.
“I disappointed you, didn’t I?
“But now, I’ve truly avenged my father.
“I tarnished his name once. This time, I did everything I could to restore it.
“I’ve asked Officer Logan to donate my body to the Healing Department. I hope it can be of some use to you all one day.
“Lastly, please apologize to Grandpa and everyone else for me. I don’t have the courage to face them.”
“Toasty, take care of yourself.
“Sorry for calling you that again. Let me have this one last time, will you? I promise… I’ll never call you that again.

By the time she reached the final line, Seraphina was sobbing uncontrollably.
The letter was soaked through with her tears.

She’d been angry with him. She’d resented him. But never-not once-had she imagined that the day would be
he-last time she saw him.
Later, Seraphina told the Blade pack about Caldwell’s death.
They already knew about everything Caldwell had done-including luring Mortimer to Ukraine to have him killed
there.
Their emotions now were complicated. Caldwell’s crimes were real, but his death had brought a final, hollow
peace.
“Dad… should we tell Abigail?” Elias asked, turning to Edwin.
Edwin waved a hand weakly. “No. Let her serve her time in peace.”
He looked a decade older now, stripped of his formidable, commanding presence as the former alpha.
With Caldwell dead and Mortimer in a coma, Edwin looked shattered and spent.
Even his wolf’s pride and vitality seemed to have been taken from him.
“Dad, please take care of yourself,” Elias said.
Sitting on the couch, Edwin let out a long sigh.
Elias fell silent beside him.
He, too, had been furious with Caldwell.
But looking back, even he couldn’t understand what he’d been thinking, letting Caldwell run the Craig Group.
During that time, every decision Caldwell made had been in the company’s best interest.
He had never carried out his threats to destroy the Craig Group and the Blade pack.
Perhaps, Elias thought, the reason he’d never reclaimed control of the company was that, deep down, he knew Caldwell still had a kernel of goodness left in him. That the wolf, for all its rage, had never completely lost its way.
A year slipped by. Spring arrived, bringing warmth and blooming flowers.
After taking Dash out for a walk, Seraphina returned home.
Hearing the door open, Toasty came padding over, meowing excitedly.
Before leaving for Ukraine as a humanitarian doctor, Caldwell had entrusted Toasty to the Garfields.
Just then, Seraphina’s phone rang.
“Dash, go play with Toasty. I need to answer this.”
She patted Dashi’s plump backside, picked up her phone, and glanced at the screen-it was a call from the Healing Center.
