Chapter 292
Third Person’s POV
Caldwell wasn’t stupid. If Mortimer knew about the plan, there was no way he was letting those weapons reach
Moses.
But Caldwell had never planned on letting Moses get his hands on that shipment anyway.
From day one, he had zero intention of partnering with the guy. He wanted someone else to do his dirty work.
The plan was to use Moses to take out Tobias, and then let the government wipe out Moses.
Mortimer ignored the comment. “Is this still about getting back at Edwin?”
Caldwell scoffed. “Why wouldn’t it be?”
Mortimer frowned. “So you still refuse to believe Edwin. You’re set on the idea that he ordered the hit on your dad?
A raw, deep-seated hatred flared in Caldwell’s eyes, turning his stare dark and hostile. The natural aggression of his inner wolf began bleeding through.
“Even if the old man didn’t do it, your dad did-my dear uncle, Elias.
“Mortimer, if they hadn’t killed my dad, my mother and I wouldn’t have spent years rotting in dirt-poor poverty.
“I scrapped my way to survival for one reason-to force every member of the Blade pack to kneel at my father’s grave and confess what they did.
“I stayed alive to tear down everything this pack has built.”
The more Caldwell spoke, the more his hatred spiked. He clamped his jaw shut so hard his fangs peeked through.
“Unfortunately…”
He broke off, letting out a self-deprecating laugh.
“You’re smarter than I gave you credit for. We barely set the wheels in motion, and you’ve figured it out.”
He glared at Mortimer. “You only let my mom run the Craig Group’s logistics so you could keep tabs on our next move, didn’t you?”
Mortimer didn’t bother denying it. “If Abigail hadn’t pulled this underhanded crap, I would have let her keep running the division. I wanted to keep her around for Edwin’s sake.”
Caldwell let out a harsh, mocking scoff.
“Underhanded crap? We wanted to avenge my father. Is that so wrong?”
Mortimer shook his head. “Wanting revenge isn’t the problem. The problem is getting involved with a guy like Moses and causing a disaster. You used Seraphina to lure me out here, and you got a lot of her people hurt in the process. How are you going to look her in the eye now?”
Caldwell shut up. The aggressive werewolf aura he’d been radiating deflated.
He couldn’t shake the memory of Seraphina’s face-the despair and guilt etched into her features when she found out the safe zone had been leveled.

None of it was her fault, yet when she faced Wilmot, she acted as though trying to defend herself was a crime.
After a long silence, Caldwell spoke. “I didn’t think…”
He’d meant to use Moses to lure Mortimer out and stir up chaos. He never saw this coming-never expected Moses to snap and flatten the safe zone.
By pulling a stunt like that, Moses had turned the world against himself.
Before this, it had been a Ukrainian civil war, which kept the rest of the globe from intervening,
But by destroying a safe zone run by international organizations and slaughtering aid workers and Doctors Without Borders personnel? Moses had begged foreign governments to step in.
Even if those countries didn’t put boots on the ground, they had other ways to back the Ukrainian government forces now.
Moses had guaranteed his own destruction, but that outcome played into Caldwell’s hands.
Mortimer glared at Caldwell, taking in his pained expression. “Didn’t think about using Seraphina?” his voice dropped low. “Or didn’t think about getting those people killed?”
Mortimer grabbed him by the front of his shirt, claws sliding from his fingertips, driven by rage.
“You got these people massacred for your petty revenge,” he growled. “Did it cross your mind how much this would hurt Seraphina when she found out? She trusted you!”
Under the weight of Mortimer’s accusations, the hostility in Caldwell’s eyes dissolved into anguish. His inner wolf seemed to lose its fight.
