Third Person’s POV

“Alpha Caldwell, I’ve done everything you asked. When are you going to keep your promise?”

The bearded man poured Caldwell a cup of the local coffee and set it in front of him.

Caldwell left the cup untouched. He only lifted his gaze to the man sitting across from him. “Where is he?

The bearded man smiled and gave a subtle nod to one of his men. A moment later, someone stepped forward and motioned for Caldwell to follow.

Caldwell rose and followed him around the compound until they reached a run-down building standing by itself.

Inside, the place was filthy and falling apart.

Farther in, a man knelt on the floor with heavy chains binding his wrists.

He looked haggard, but he didn’t appear to have been tortured.

Hearing footsteps, he raised his head. The sudden light made him squeeze his eyes shut.

A few moments later, he opened them again. The instant he recognized the man standing before him,

his brown eyes widened.

“Caldwell?”

He instinctively straightened up and tried to stand, only then realizing the heavy chains around his wrists.

“How are you, Father?” Caldwell’s voice was cold enough to send a chill through the room. The Alpha’s suppressed aura weighed heavily on the air.

Tobias’s pupils contracted, and fear instantly filled his eyes.

It didn’t take him long to figure it out. “You joined forces with Moses to betray me?”

No wonder Moses had invited him to Ukraine, only for Moses’s men to take him captive the moment he arrived in their territory.

With his hands in his pockets, Caldwell stood over Tobias, looking down at him like a dying animal struggling at a hunter’s feet. His eyes carried the cold, predatory gleam unique to a werewolf closing in on its prey.

“Mr. Moses is a smart man. He knows exactly who to work with.”

That single sentence made Tobias furious.

“I’m your father! How could you do this to me?”

“I do see you as my father,” Caldwell replied calmly. “Otherwise, you would have been dead the moment you tried to have my people killed.”

His voice remained flat. His eyes were as still and lifeless as frozen water.

Tobias’s heart skipped a beat.

He had never imagined Caldwell would go this far for a woman, even turning against the stepfather who had raised him for years without hesitation.

And Tobias knew Caldwell had once wanted to tear him apart.

The realization sent panic surging through him.

“Caldwell, it was all a misunderstanding. Connor’s car suddenly lost control that day. That’s why the accident happened. I only told him to put on a show. Believe me. I never intended to hurt that girl.”

Caldwell said nothing. He looked at Tobias as though he were already dead while the wolf inside him let

out a low, threatening growl.

Perhaps because Tobias was so close to death, the overwhelming fear he could no longer control completely consumed the once-powerful man before him.

He dropped to his knees and begged. “Caldwell, let’s talk this through, alright? For the sake of everything I’ve done raising you, let’s sit down and talk.”

Caldwell let out a quiet, mocking laugh. “Dad, have you forgotten? I tried talking to you. You just wouldn’t

listen.”

He stepped closer and slowly crouched down. With surprising gentleness, he smoothed Tobias’s disheveled hair and straightened his wrinkled clothes.

“How am I supposed to face her? Every time I look at her, the guilt is unbearable.”

His touch was gentle. Yet every movement filled Tobias with even greater terror.

By the time Caldwell finally withdrew his hands, it felt as though an eternity had passed.

“Dad, don’t worry. I won’t let you die. Mr. Moses is a friend of mine. Stay here with him. He’ll take good care of you.”

Then Caldwell stood and walked away, leaving Tobias staring after him in despair and terror.

“Caldwell! Please let me go! Canyon is yours! Everything I own is yours! Just spare my life!”

Caldwell never looked back. Some choices, once made, could never be undone.

Back in the lavish Baroque-style reception hall, Moses idly turned the gemstone ring on his thumb as he watched Caldwell return.

“You’ve seen him. Now it’s time to keep your end of the bargain, Alpha Caldwell.”
