Third Person’s POV
Seraphina didn’t want to waste her time with Mortimer, and she was afraid the two Alphas would keep bickering. So she turned to Caldwell and said, “Let’s go. Don’t you have class this afternoon?”
“Alright.” Caldwell nodded slightly, the smirk on his face never fading. “I’ll be on my way then, Alpha Mortimer. I hope the next time we meet… you’ll officially be Sera’s ex.”
Seraphina didn’t catch the last sentence, but Mortimer heard it crystal clear. Maybe it was just a guy’s instinct, or maybe it was the possessiveness that came naturally to an Alpha, but he knew perfectly well how Caldwell felt about Seraphina.
The provocation hidden in the sentence was impossible to miss. A dangerous glint immediately surged itrto Mortimer’s eyes.
After throwing out that parting shot, Caldwell was ready to leave with Seraphina.
Ignoring him for the moment, Mortimer hurried forward and caught Seraphina’s wrist the second she turned around. “Before we officially sever our bond, we should sit down and talk everything through.”
Seraphina frowned. “Didn’t we already?”
“No.” There was a stubborn determination in Mortimer’s expression. “You can’t just count me out of the game without even giving me a chance to explain.”
Caldwell spoke calmly from the side. “No matter how you explain, the fact remains that you hurt Seraphina.”
“Shut up.” Mortimer glared at him through gritted teeth. “No matter what, we’re still legally mates. This is between us. It isn’t your place to interfere.”
A cold smile tugged at his lips as he added, “Don’t force my hand.”
Caldwell caught the threat, but he just let out a chuckle, completely unfazed. “Alpha Mortimer… do you really think I’d be afraid of you?”
Mortimer narrowed his eyes, the danger in them intensifying. “How about we find out?”
Just as Caldwell was about to answer, Seraphina cut him off. “Caldwell.”
At the sound of her voice, the coldness instantly disappeared from his face, The warmth returned to his eyes.
“You should head back. I’ll settle this with him.”
Though clearly reluctant, Caldwell nodded. “Alright. I’m leaving. If anything happens, call me.”
When he was out of sight, Seraphina turned back to Mortimer. “Caldwell and I studied under the same mentor, and he saved my life. That’s all. There’s nothing going on between me and him.”
Mortimer looked at her distant expression and let out a bitter laugh. “The way he looks at you… You honestly don’t think he has feelings for you?”
Seraphina’s brows knitted even tighter, displeasure flashing across her face.
“Mortimer. Stop trying to smear my friend.”
The more she defended Caldwell, the more Mortimer’s self-control slipped away.
“Am I smearing him…or does he have ulterior motives? He knows the answer better than anyone.”
He gripped both of her arms, unconsciously tightening his hold as his emotions spiraled. “Don’t let him fool you.”
Anger became unmistakable on Seraphina’s face. “I’ll say this one last time: don’t talk about him like that. He saved my life. If it

veren’t for him, I might have been dead long ago. So please, show him some respect.”
he absolute trust and unwavering protectiveness in her eyes whenever she spoke of Caldwell stabbed straight through Mortimer’s heart.
His voice turned hoarse. Even his lips trembled slightly. “So he saved you once. Just return the favor. Do you really have to trust im this much?”
The moment the words left his mouth, he froze.
trace of mockery appeared beneath the anger in Seraphina’s eyes. “Yes. Because of what he did for me, he’ll always come first.
hose words drained every bit of color from Mortimer’s face.
\realization suddenly struck him. How was Seraphina’s attitude toward Caldwell any different from the way he’d once treated Vivian?
io, back then, whenever she watched him defend Vivian, she must’ve felt exactly the way he did now-heartbroken, mbarrassed, and distressed.
‘Mortimer. Stop making a scene,” Seraphina snapped.
‘Didn’t you say you wanted to talk? Then let’s talk right here. Let’s settle everything once and for all.”
he silently counted the days. Only three remained. Three more days, and this relationship would finally come to an end.
Suppressing the sharp pain stabbing through his chest, Mortimer forced out a bitter smile. “Alright.”
They then walked into the café next to the restaurant.
Mortimer ordered black coffee for both of them.
When Seraphina heard the order, a flicker of resistance flashed through her downcast eyes. But she said nothing, just quietly aking the seat across from him. “Go ahead. What else do you want to talk about? Let’s get everything out in the open while
ve’re here.”
By now, Mortimer had calmed down a bit. Looking at the impatience written all over her face, another wave of heartbreak velled up inside him. “Are you really in that much of a hurry to leave? You won’t even stay with me a little longer?”
He tried to play it off like a joke, but the bitterness in his heart was getting so overwhelming that even the cup of black coffee in ront of him didn’t taste quite as bitter anymore.
Seraphina glanced at him in confusion. She couldn’t understand why this CEO-who was usually so swamped that he barely had ime to grab a coffee-had traveled all this way just to waste his precious time.
“Is that what you wanted to talk about?” she asked, her brows furrowing with impatience.
She lifted her wrist and glanced at her watch. “Sorry. I don’t have that much time to waste here.” With that, she rose to her feet.
Panic flashed across Mortimer’s face. He quickly reached out and grabbed her hand. “Alright, I’ll get to the point.” 1
