Princess Katie Anne
~<>~
For the first time since Dolf surfaced with Davien, he showed himself. Dolf, a wolf I have bonded with since I was a little girl, revealed himself not just to me but to every member of the pack he once governed as the wolf spirit of Tristan.
So it was only fitting for everyone, including myself, to be in awe… to be shocked.
For a moment there, even Jarrett froze, with his hand and stolen sword in the air. After all, we all knew who Dolf was. His scent and aura were purer compared to when he was Tristan’s wolf, but still, members of the Black Fur Pack recognized him.
“It’s Dolf.”
“It’s Alpha Tristan’s wolf.”
“The same one that Luna Queen Aurelia saved after Tristan ceased to exist? How is this possible?”
“That can’t be. It’s impossible.”
The crowd murmured amongst themselves, asking questions they couldn’t get answers to in that moment because even though the rest of us had frozen, Dolf hadn’t—and he was closing the remaining distance between himself and Jarrett.
“How did—? When did you get a wolf? Th—that’s no ordinary wolf—” Jarrett stuttered, stumbling over his own words with eyes as wide as the open sky.
But he shook his head quickly before Dolf could reach him, despite the fear in his eyes, and he braced himself for the impact we all knew was coming. However, bracing himself didn’t help Jarrett, because as soon as Dolf reached him, he knocked the damn sword out of Jarrett’s hand with one of his huge paws.
If Jarrett considered shifting to level the ground, Dolf took that thought out of his mind as he kicked Jarrett off balance. From where I was standing, I could see Dolf towering over Jarrett, baring his canines as he stared him down.
“He’s going to kill him.” Cynthia whimpered from where she was still standing with other witnesses, even though she had fallen into the category of those who would be punished.
“Better him than my mate,” I thought to myself, forcing myself to ignore Cynthia’s painful whimpers.
As if Dolf could hear us, he began to tear Jarrett apart—slowly. First, he popped one of his legs, dislocating it completely. Jarrett screamed, moving on his butt in an attempt to put some distance between himself and Dolf. “Argh!”
But he didn’t get to escape before Dolf pinned him to the floor, effortlessly popping out his second leg.
“I gave up my place as Alpha when Tristan was fighting during the last Battle of Alphas because I believed that the people of Black Fur deserved a better Alpha,” Dolf snarled at Jarrett, who I believed couldn’t hear him.
The only reason I could hear Dolf’s statement was because we shared a unique bond besides that between us as mates. But even though he couldn’t be heard, Dolf made sure everyone saw his raw anger.
With that, Dolf retracted his hand from Jarrett’s chest, ripping out his heart in the process.
Cynthia ran over to where Jarrett’s lifeless and empty body was after Dolf majestically walked away from him. However, she didn’t reach her mate’s body before her legs gave out from the pain I believed was overtaking her.
My heart went out to her, but at the same time, I was happy because finally, I could feel Davien’s heart getting lighter. My mate was happier… he was free.
As I wrapped my arms around Dolf’s neck, just as I used to do when we ran through the forest together, I saw my mom walking over to Cynthia, whispering, “Let me take the apple away, Cynthia. You will be able to live on without him if I do, but the question is whether you want to do that.”
It took about a minute for Cynthia to accept my mom’s offer and say, “I have to live on for my sons. They need me now more than ever, so help me, My Queen.”
My mom helped her by sealing the bond between her and Jarrett, making Cynthia a free woman—aside from the fact that she was a royal criminal. Also, Davien and I became the Alpha and Luna of the Black Fur Pack that same day.
Jarrett was gone. Cole was gone. Davien was gone.
Yet I didn’t sleep peacefully that night, all thanks to the same dream I had been having for the past few weeks. Fortunately, my mom and Auntie Susanna were around to help shed light on the dream…
Only it wasn’t a dream… but a prophecy I saw because I had unknowingly tapped into my Seer ability… a prophecy that wasn’t even about me, but about someone I loved deeply—Elora.
