Princess Katie Anne
~<>~
During the drive, I had imagined how I would sweep Kennedy and Ronald off their feet, holding them for as long as I could because I had missed them. I saw myself sleeping in the same bed with Kyle for the first night, in fact.
For Elora, I thought I would take her everywhere with me because I was still worried about her. I believed my mom would have some new information about the reincarnation stuff that happened before they left Black Fur Pack three weeks ago.
I thought I would have time to laugh with my loved ones, but as soon as Davien drove into the palace's driveway, I saw my loved ones running in the direction where I knew my grandma, Tamia, would be.
“We have to go to Mia Lu now, Katie,” Kyle said the second he saw me and stretched his hand towards me.
I took my twin brother’s hand and began to run with him, knowing that Davien was right behind me. The chaos within the White Wolves' settlement was unmissable. Those who were not running to Mia Lu’s house were gathered with arms folded and a downcast look.
By the time we got to Mia Lu’s house, a lot of our people, both white wolves and members of Dark Moon Park, had gathered before her home. In fact, some were walking out of her building with dejection boldly written all over their faces.
“Goddess, no.” I whimpered as we stepped in, and I saw all the healers leaving her side.
Although I knew it was her time to go, all thanks to Elora’s running mouth, I still couldn’t bear to see people, her own people, give up on her. I rushed over to Mia Lu’s bedside, but my mom got there before me, kneeling beside Mia Lu.
“Hey, I am here.” My mom muttered, barely holding back her tears as she ran her fingers through the hair of the one person who is linked to her biologically, aside from my siblings and me. “Anything you need. I will give it to you.”
Grandma Mia smiled weakly, even though her eyes had lost the spark that I had grown up loving. She muttered to my mom, “I need you to not get sad, Aurelia. What I need is for you to let me go because it is my time.”
I could see Auntie Susannah holding on to her sobbing kids. We all knew what we were about to witness, and it was breaking our hearts.
Yet, Mia Lu began, uttering what would be her last wise words to us all. She began by looking at Elora, who has been surprisingly quiet since we got here. “My dearest Elora, it’s good to know that you retired to revive the homeland of the White Wolves and to restore the balance that was tampered with when the witches were banished.”
If I didn’t know that my little sister was a reincarnation of my late grandmother, this would have been a weird moment. Hell, it was still weird, but that didn’t stop Mia Lu from adding, “I know you are more than capable, but I want you to understand that there is so much evil in the world, and the return of the witches would bring that evil to your doorsteps.”
“You and Katie have time.” Mia Lu continued, staring deep into my eyes. “You have each other. You have a big family to help you, so don’t do this alone and prepare vigorously. After all, the looming battle isn’t about your fists but about your heart and mind. The greatest power lies within you… lies in unity and—”
Whatever Mia Lu wanted to add to her statement remained unknown because, in that moment, she took her last breath, leaving her loved ones in tears… Despite the tears pouring out of me, I couldn’t help but wonder what Mia Lu meant when she said, “The looming battle isn’t about your fists.”
After all, my power and confidence lie right there.
