Princess Katie Anne
~<>~
I understood that my mom was greatly disturbed, but who would have thought she would throw that question to the crowd, especially to the people of Black Fur?
The witches were banned because they were bad for the realm, so why on earth would she even consider bringing them back?
“Because the witches won’t stop trying to come back to this realm, Katie,” Zuri answered that question and went on to explain herself by saying, “The human realm wasn’t designed for them. That place is killing them, so they keep trying to get back to this realm even if it means turning us against ourselves.”
Then Zoe chimed in, “True. First, they got Tristan’s parents, then Larisa and Tristan, and now they have managed to get their claws into Jarrett as well. We have to break the cycle if we want true peace.”
I didn’t think it was fair to blame the witches for the actions of the greedy people Zoe just mentioned, but the outburst from the crowd stopped me from countering my wolves.
“What good does being our true selves do?” someone from the other side of the arena screamed, raising his voice above the loud murmurs. “All we do is fight, kill one another, and destroy property.”
“We love the Flockhart family! You all have saved us from ourselves and shown us a better way to live,” said another person, this time a woman who was very close to where my mom was standing.
“We made you our Queen because you fought for us and believed in us,” someone else added. “You are no dictator, Luna Queen Aurelia. You were our hero, and you still are.”
Many more people expressed their love and gratitude to my mom before someone else said, “We also chose you, King Raiden, to be our King. You chose to make your regime about the people, giving us a voice and making our lives better. You are no dictator. You are our King.”
“Yes! A King who has given us free will. Because we fight less doesn’t make us less werewolves. Peace doesn’t make us puppies.” Those were the words of another member of Black Fur.
She spoke with pain in her voice, even though she looked unfazed, and I didn’t have to see Mom’s face to know that she felt every one of those words in her bones.
Within a second, the witnesses stepped forward and took turns speaking about how Jarrett reached out to them and how they initially agreed to meet him, thinking he had something important to say. They all made it known that he told them the throne had to go to another family, but in reality, he wanted the throne for himself.
“He was power-hungry, and I saw through him,” said the last witness before Luna Cynthia stepped forward to speak.
Luna Cynthia began by saying, “Yes, Jarrett reached out to the witches, and he planned to work with them if he didn’t get enough supporters to crown himself. He planned to marry Princess Katie off to Cole so he could have more resources for himself. He planned to tear the Royal family apart. Yes, he is guilty, but I am here today to plead on his behalf.”
Huh? What?
“He is my mate. If you take his life just because he planned to become the next King through dubious means, I will die too, and while I deserve that, I beg for your mercy, my King and Queen. Please spare our lives and make Jarrett a prisoner instead of killing him,” Cynthia concluded as she fell to her knees. But Jarrett barked and kicked against her words, speaking for himself, “I would rather die than become their prisoner!”
