“What kind of a mother are you?” I was too angry to care about respecting the woman sobbing before me.

After listening to her and seeing how she handled the situation with Davien, who has been open to giving her another chance, I felt immense gratitude for my parents. For my mom, especially, because I have seen her sacrifice her happiness for me and my siblings many times.

My mom would do anything for us, even if it means she has to live with the fact that we, or more precisely, I, hate her.

“You don’t understand, and I don’t expect you to, Princess Katie,” Luna Cynthia muttered, wiping her wet face as she added, Your life is so perfect. You have powerful parents, excellent siblings, and you also didn’t have to choose between two men-” “Are you kidding me?” I chuckled, disbelief clouding my senses. “My family was literally torn apart because of this realm. Before she could speak, I hissed, “To kill my mate and claim me just like he did with you?”

“I think you are missing the point here, Cynthia,” I cut her off. “You didn’t have to wait around for anyone to reject you. You could have done that yourself if you didn’t want to have two mates. Instead of making them fight for you like some cheap goldmine, you could have made a choice and spared the life of your unborn child’s father.”

Unleashing the emotions I have been bottling since before the stupid duel between Davien and his stupid brother, I snarled, If you had taken a step to reject one of your mates even after you got pregnant, instead of having him killed, Davien would have a father to go to now that the family you gave him is treating him like an enemy. Perhaps he wouldn’t hate you enough to want to kill the mate you eventually settled for.”

She continued, “He says canceling the duel would make him look weak, but if Davien withdraws, there would be no humiliation or death. I failed to stop the duel that killed Brennan, but if you help me, I can stop this one.”

She averted her gaze when I looked into them, and slowly, she stated, “I’m saying I need you to help me convince Davien. Make him withdraw from the duel before your parents, Princess Katie_”

“Are you crazy?” I gasped but quickly corrected myself, “You are crazy.”

But still, Cynthia didn’t get the memo. She still defended her theory, saying, “I have made a lot of mistakes in my life, but I don’t want to lose another mate or a child, and I know you don’t want to lose Davien either. We can prevent-“

“I won’t lose Davien, Cynthia,” I muttered confidently. “But you, on the other hand, should start preparing to lose Jarrett because he will die. Davien will kill him because you gave him all the motivation he needed a few minutes ago.”

Panic flashed through Cynthia’s eyes, but I didn’t care. I turned away from her again and said on my way out, “I have a mate to get to. You might want to go to yours as well. After all, he only has a few days left to live.”
