Chasing His Betrayed Luna novel Chapter 110

DAVIEN

~<>~

I didn’t know what to think of her—the woman who gave birth to me. She gave me life, but she was involved in taking my father’s life. As her eyes glistened with emotions I could decipher, I held my breath, anxiously waiting to hear her say my dad’s name for the first time in my life.

Eventually, after minutes of silence and harsh breaths from my mom, she chimed, “Brennan. His name was Brennan.”

The unfamiliarity that came with hearing that name broke my heart because that was supposed to be my dad’s name, yet it didn’t ring a bell. All my life, I had never known any Brennan. Not once was he mentioned around me.

“That’s because they tried to keep him buried,” Dolf spat within me, his rage as hot as Katie’s, even though he was sitting quietly beside me. “Trust me, you wouldn’t have found out you had a different dad if Damien didn’t let it slip. She would have let you die during that duel without knowing why you were treated differently all your life.”

I swallowed the rage that my wolf and mate were transferring into my system, hoping it wouldn’t invoke mine, as I needed to listen to all my mom had to say with calmness. Slowly, I muttered, “Would you have let me die? Would you have let Damien kill me like his dad killed my dad?”

My mom shook her head, tears trickling down her cheeks rapidly as she murmured, “You don’t know how hard this is, Davien. Do you understand that I have had to choose between two people who mattered to me? Twice, for goodness’ sake! First, it was Jarrett and Brennan fighting over me, and yeah, it felt good to have the attention of two men to whom I had a strong connection, but when the fight became threatening, I had to choose.”

Katie’s fists clenched as we both listened to my mom’s excuse of an excuse. Or what she believed was an explanation.

“Then you and Damien, too. Why can’t everyone get along? Why do you all put me in this “

“No one!” I gritted my teeth, having had enough of her crap. “No one put you in this position. Right from our childhood, you made it so obvious that you wanted Damien more than you wanted me. It was glaring, and I’m as sure as hell that you did the same with the two mates that were given to you by the goddess.”

“Did that time require that you kill the other mate just to be perceived as normal?” I seethed at her, watching as her eyes widened.

Was she even listening to herself? All she proved to me was that my dad was a good person because it takes a wicked, selfish bastard like Jarret to kill another man without hesitation. Perhaps hesitating was a mistake on my dad’s part because Jarrett didn’t deserve to be seen as a man.

And that was a mistake I wouldn’t make when I duel with Alpha Jarrett.

“I asked you four questions, and you only answered one, which was telling me my dad’s name.” I sighed as I rose to my feet. ” The other three questions, you evaded, but you’ve helped me understand that even you will never be on my side if I am not on the winning team.”

As I said those words to my mom, I could tell she was trying so hard to recall the three questions she evaded, but I was out of patience.

“So when I do fight the man you chose, I will make sure I win, and that victory will be for him.” I voiced my conclusion before walking off despite my mom’s attempt to stop me. “My win will be for Brennan, not you.”
