Princess Katie Anne
~<>~
Although I was against the idea of trusting Luna Cynthia and going with her to stay in her family’s mansion that has been deserted, Davien begged me to give her a chance because he needed to talk to her privately.
Yes, my mate wanted to know more about his late dad and also hear from the horse’s mouth, AKA, his mom.
It’s been three days since the last duel, and with the help of Nova, Jade, and a few loyal servants to Luna Cynthia, we were able to retrieve our belongings from the Alpha mansion, move them to the old building, clean it up, and get comfortable.
It’s been three days of trying to be civil with Davien’s mom and also three days of her avoiding telling my mate what he was longing to hear. If she were a decent woman, I would have considered her feelings and thought she was hurting.
I thought she was avoiding the past because she regretted or missed Davien’s dad.
However, I couldn’t see past the heartless woman who chose to be Luna over fighting for a man that I knew was ten times better than Alpha Jarrett. I didn’t have to meet him to know that.
“He is recovering. I shouldn’t talk about the past while he is recuperating,” Luna Cynthia had said to me when I approached and questioned her yesterday after she kept Davien waiting all day for a tale that wasn’t coming.
But after another day of watching Davien drown in anticipation, I decided that we would be hearing from Luna Cynthia tonight. Also, my parents would be arriving in Black Fur tomorrow, and there would be nothing stopping the duel from happening when they do.
And Davien deserved to know the truth before he faced and dueled with his father’s killer.
Therefore, after a long day of Davien training in his wolf form in the basement of the old building where no one could see him, I made him sit in the living room, and we both waited for his mom to sneak into the building like she had been doing for the past two days.
“Welcome home, Cynthia,” I muttered as soon as she stepped into the living room.
She jumped a little, obviously not expecting to see Davien and me in the living room, wide awake.
Yeah, she should be scared-
Of course, I would have loved to stay, but I couldn’t promise not to lash out at Davien’s mom, and I would be hurt if he reprimanded me for her again. So, I believed leaving was the best for everyone.
However, Davien caught my hand before I could take another step. My eyes cut to his as he said, “I need you to stay, Katie. I need you here with me.”
Exhaling loudly, I sat back down, my heart fluttering because, for the first time in three days, I saw the man I loved when I stared into Davien’s eyes. He had been lost for three days, and that was hard for me.
Thankfully, Cynthia also sat down, and she started by apologizing to Davien for everything she had done to hurt him in this lifetime. “I have been avoiding you because I don’t know how to face you. I feel horrible, and I can’t bring myself to pick a side. The bond I have with Jarrett is real, and it’s the only thing keeping me alive after your father’s demise, Davien. I can’t let it go and-“
Davien cut her off, asking what seemed like an unimportant question but meant a lot to him, “What was his name?”
Cynthia swallowed audibly, and her eyes glinted with dread even as her lips parted to give Davien the name of his late father.
