After watching Davien and Damien for over thirty minutes, I realized that I was worried for nothing. My mate had this under control.

He had successfully captured the heart and support of everyone in the audience. He also made Damien show his true self to everyone, destroying the image and reputation that Alpha Jarrett had dubiously created for Damien.

So, yes, it’s been thirty minutes of realization as I watched Alpha Jarrett fidget nervously in his seat. Even Luna Cynthia couldn’t sit still; after all, everyone could tell that Davien had the upper hand.

I could also see Cole shifting repeatedly in his seat, his nerves getting the best of him, but at that moment, I smiled contentedly.

“He could have told us his plans and saved us from the fear and worries,” Zoe grumbled within me, her frustrations melting and becoming anger as she stared at Davien and Damien through my eyes, just like Zuri had been doing.

I muttered in response, “Oh, he will pay for that.”And I meant every word, but Zuri voiced, making Davien realize his intention: “What if he needed you to be scared and ready? He might have to kill his brother, Katie. You are the only one in this pack who can mend him. I believe Davien still needs us even though he has it under control.”

With that realization slamming into me, my breath hitched, and I wondered If I could be the mate Davien needed if his worst fears were to become reality.

Before I could get lost in my own mind, my attention shifted to the duel as Damien knocked my mate off balance, sending him flying until he fell on his back.

Everyone in the arena exclaimed loudly, and a few jumped to their feet just like I did.

If I thought I knew what fear was before now, I was wrong because as soon as I saw Damien marching over to where Davien was lying. I didn’t need to be told that Davien was struggling to get back on his feet. I could feel it.

His pain sneaked past the wall he had put up between us, gripping my heart tightly and colliding with my fears.

I didn’t know what l’d been expecting, but when Davien rolled onto his side, narrowly missing Damien’s hit by a second, l sighed in relief, clutching my chest as tears welled in my eyes. That fleeting moment of relief quickly dissolved when I realized Davien couldn’t move-his body battered with broken bones from the hard crash.

“So literal,” Zoe chimed within me. “His back is broken.”

I could sense my wolves’ jubilation even though Alpha Jarrett and Luna Cynthia began to yell at Damien to get up and keep fighting.

It was obvious that Damien had lost, but that didn’t hinder him from spitting in Davien’s face as he cried out, “I would rather die than surrender to my mother’s bastard child!”
