DAVIEN
My ferocious cat was scared.
I could feel it in my bones despite her harsh words. I also knew I could trust her to mend me if Damien ended up killing me. Heck, I also knew the first thing she would do if Damien killed me was to take his life before even thinking about reviving me.
“Remember, Davien, putting Katie through the excruciating pain of losing you will cause her to lose control over her wolves. If you let Damien kill you because you don’t want to kill him, Katie’s soul might split into two before she has the chance to save you,” Dolf stated, telling me the same words he had told me repeatedly since last night.
He added,
, “Your death is equivalent to Katie’s death.
Therefore, you can’t die. I won’t let you die.”
Yeah, but I also couldn’t let Damien die… not if I were his killer.
While I do not intend to die today, I wouldn’t kill my brother either. This was why I had many plans in place to make him accept defeat without killing him, and if I had to kill him, Katie would be prepared to bring him back.To save Damien, whom I knew couldn’t defeat me for obvious reasons, I had to plant the idea of using her mending ability in Katie’s mind so she would be ready.
“What’s going on, brother? You aren’t about to chicken out, are you?” Damien’s words hit my eardrums as he made the first move, throwing his balled fists toward my face.
Quickly, I blocked the connection between Katie and me, including communication, because I wouldn’t want her to feel my pain during this duel. She needed to save all her energy for my stupid plan.
Clearly, my brother doesn’t care about taking my life.
Hell! He would be pleased to do that.
Sometimes, restraint is the real power.” I let a slight smile curl my lips as I recalled that I had to keep Dolf’s power contained and hidden because this wasn’t the time to let my wolf shine.
Although I had blocked the cheers from the audience out, I heard them gasp fearfully while Damien’s shock tickled my nostrils as he struggled to break free, but I held him, invoking his rage.
I relaxed my hold slightly to whisper to Damien, “I don’t want to kill you, nor do I want to die, Damien. When do you intend to have a mind of your own? Dad is using you to gain more allies, and when you become useless, he will take everything from you and toss you aside. That’s even if you win—”
“Shut up!” Damien gritted, cutting me off and jabbing his elbows into my ribs. Instinctively, I kicked his legs out from under him, causing him to stumble. He almost fell on his face before he caught himself, his eyes blazing with nothing but rage.
“The kind of Alpha that Black Fur needs is one with heart, vision, and control, and you are none of that, Damien,” | voiced loudly so everyone could hear me as I took steps away from my angry brother. “You do not have a heart because if you do, you won’t sleep with other women after-choosing a mate, and you definitely won’t be this happy to kill your own brother. If you have purpose, you will know that I am right and your lack of control is glaring, brother.”
Damien kept coming after me, but I kept moving away bécause I needed to pass a message to the pack, and I did as I exclaimed, “And someday, your lack of vision and control will make you force our people to war because you will become a greedy Alpha since you do not have a heart.”
Describing who Damien was reminded the pack of what having an Alpha like him truly cost them. It evoked memories of Alpha Tristan and the witch Larisa, images that cast my brother in a dire light. In an instant, Damien lost his cheering fans and his composure, confirming my point. As he lunged toward me once more, I stood my ground, ready for his attack, marking the beginning of a fight he was destined to lose.
