Meanwhile, at Leonora's place...
After taking a shower and having a brief chat with her parents, Leonora went back to her room. She settled into bed with a book, but just as she was about to turn off the light and call it a night, her phone rang. It was Taylor.
Leonora answered, but before she could say anything, Taylor's voice came through the line, "Hey babe, I'm coming over to pick you up."
Ignoring a message from Kitty and not bothering to look for her, Taylor had decided, after a quick shower back in Southbay, to come over and get Leonora.
Leonora was silent for a moment, then sighed, "Can't you just have a day off? If I'd known, I would've gone back to Southbay with you instead of walking in the park. Now you're coming over in the middle of the night."
She added, "But how am I supposed to explain this to my parents at this hour?"
Taylor suggested, "Should I just come upstairs?"
"Don't even think about it, I'll figure something out," she replied. If he came up, her parents would definitely not let her out.
Leonora hadn’t planned on meeting Taylor or going over to his place, but he had mentioned wanting to see her before dropping her off earlier, and now he was back, still thinking about it. She couldn’t bear to turn him away.
Besides, he had been unusually clingy these past few days, always needing to hold her. Determined to find a way, Leonora hung up and quickly changed into some casual clothes.
When she opened her bedroom door and walked into the living room, her parents were still there, not yet retired for the night.
Seeing Leonora dressed to go out, both her parents asked in unison, "Arielle, it's past ten, where are you going?"
Caught off guard, Leonora stammered, "My friend, well, my boyfriend, he twisted his ankle at home. It seems pretty serious, and he can't move. I'm going to check on him and maybe take him to the hospital."
In her room, Leonora had struggled to come up with an excuse, eventually asking Joselyn for advice. Hearing that her boyfriend had a serious ankle twist, her parents immediately became concerned.
Shania quickly asked, "Is it serious? Should we come with you? We could help support him and handle the hospital admission."
"Mom, there's no need. Meeting you like this would be awkward for him."
"Then let your dad drive you over."
"I've already called a cab, it's almost here. I'll call you once I get to his place."
Lying to her parents made Leonora feel awful. She had hardly ever lied before meeting Taylor, but now she was becoming a professional at it. Her parents, believing her story about the cab, didn’t insist on accompanying her. They understood the need for young people to have their own space, especially considering their daughter was already 26.
Before leaving, Shania advised, "Arielle, if his condition is serious, you must call us. As elders, we should also visit him. And don't let us lose courtesy."
"Mom, I understand."
