30 Days Till I Divorce My Husband novel Chapter 552

With trembling hands holding her phone, Leonora listened to the lively chatter on the other end for what felt like an eternity before finally, distractedly, ending the call.

Maybe it was just some drunken banter, maybe her sadness was unwarranted. But she couldn't help feeling upset, her mind replaying that girl's crisp laughter, remembering her mention of heading to the office for work. Taylor seemed to be very patient with her as well, which added to her confusion.

Leonora's mind was a whirlwind. She pondered a lot, dismissing just as much. Sitting on the couch with her phone, she felt lost, memories of the past surfacing, reminding her how careless she had been, how she had let herself fall.

By 9:30, she glanced at the wall clock. Taylor still hadn't returned, nor had he called. Strangely, she felt a calm wash over her, the earlier sadness slipping away. Suddenly, it dawned on her—Taylor's dating her was like a game of conquest. He didn't just want her body; he wanted her heart to bow to him. Seeing that she had let her guard down, he became increasingly inattentive. The passionate love between them seemed to have only lasted those few initial days.

Swiping her phone screen, she noted that she had waited from the end of work till now, and still, no word from Taylor. Calmly, she opened an app to call herself a ride, put on her shoes, grabbed her purse and phone, and headed downstairs. She had promised to wait for him, but she wouldn't wait 'forever.'

The summer breeze was cool, and as Leonora reached downstairs, her ride showed up at the front gate of the community. She brushed the hair from her face, bent down, and got into the car.

When she got home, her mood was pretty normal. After a brief chat with her parents, she took a bath and then sat on her bed to read. She didn't call Joselyn to analyze the situation, nor did she tell her about the jokes she heard. She just quietly read her book, quietly reflecting on her days with Taylor.

Past eleven, Leonora started feeling sleepy. She put down the book, crawled into bed, and just as she closed her eyes, the phone by her pillow vibrated. She didn't want to answer it, but when it rang a second time, she picked it up.

"Hello," she greeted without opening her eyes.

Taylor's voice came through, gentle and soft, "Babe, why aren't you home?"

Her heart ached a bit at the sound of his familiar voice. "You hadn't returned, so I went home first. I sent you a message," she explained weakly.

On his way back, Leonora had thought it over and decided to message Taylor via Messenger. Taylor’s phone had died at the hotel, and in the rush to return, he only realized she wasn't home after charging it and immediately called her.

Hearing her explanation, Taylor habitually walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, lit a cigarette, and said, "Babe, I've been swamped lately, sorry for neglecting you, for not spending enough time with you. Tonight, I just wanted to make a brief appearance, but I couldn't get away."

"I'll come pick you up tomorrow morning," he added.

Taylor was sharp; he didn't need Leonora to spell out her feelings or throw a tantrum to sense her mood. Most importantly, he knew he had neglected her today, making her wait at home for hours. The saying goes, don't hit a smiling face; with Taylor's proactive apology, Leonora couldn't stay mad and sleepily said, "I know you're busy with work. I'm not blaming you."

After a deep drag of his cigarette, Taylor said, "If it weren't so late, if I weren't afraid of disturbing your rest, babe, I'd really want to bring you over."
