Standing by the bed, her hand on her forehead, Leonora thought to herself, "Taylor said he bought that house under my name, so he probably didn't change the lock code."
As for him, he had so many properties he couldn't even count them all, and they were all in better neighborhoods than Southbay. He definitely wouldn't be there.
So, all she needed to do was go over now and get her wallet back.
With that thought, Leonora changed into her outdoor clothes, headed to the community entrance, and caught a taxi back to Southbay.
Ten minutes later, the taxi pulled up at Southbay. Leonora paid the fare with her phone and headed upstairs.
As she arrived at the door, a wave of nostalgia washed over her. It felt as if her time with Taylor had just happened yesterday, like they hadn't broken up at all.
Standing at the door, Leonora pressed her finger to the scanner. Soon, a voice announced, “Door unlocked.”
Taylor hadn't changed the lock code or deleted her fingerprint. He wouldn't do that.
She tiptoed inside. The place seemed both uninhabited and yet lived in.
After changing her shoes, Leonora was about to head to the master bedroom to fetch her wallet when she suddenly heard footsteps.
In the next second, she looked up towards the bedroom and saw Taylor, in pajamas, his hair a mess, and his eyes sleepy, emerging from the room.
Thinking it was Mrs. Chen coming to clean, Taylor was about to send her off when he saw Leonora standing there.
The sight of Leonora stunned Taylor. Then, he quickly came to his senses, his eyes widening in disbelief. “Leonora?”
Leonora couldn't feel more awkward.
She hadn't expected to see Taylor here.
If she had known he was here, she wouldn't have come, preferring to wait until Monday to get new IDs and bank cards.
Both were equally surprised, staring at each other.
With an awkward glance at Taylor, she explained, “I didn't know you would be here.”
Realizing she hadn't really explained, she added, “I forgot my ID and bank cards in the bedside drawer last time. I came to get them.”
Hearing this, Taylor stepped aside. “Hmm.”
Even though they had broken up, Taylor still visited Southbay whenever he could, especially on weekends. He was almost always there.
Because in the past, he and Leonora would spend weekends together there.
Seeing Taylor make way for her, Leonora attempted an awkward smile but eventually gave up. She simply walked past him to the bedroom.
Inside, she saw the bed Taylor had slept in, the covers still a mess.
The man's scent and his unique presence enveloped her, leaving Leonora with mixed feelings.
Staring at the bed they had shared, she walked over to the bedside drawer, bent down, and opened it. Sure enough, her wallet was there.
Opening it, she checked and found her ID and bank cards inside.
With that, she headed out.
Just as she reached the door, Taylor came in from outside.
Meeting at the door, Leonora told him, “I found my wallet. It was in the bedside drawer.”
“Hmm.” Taylor looked at her seriously, his gaze almost glued to her.
In fact, the first time Taylor came to Southbay after their breakup, he found Leonora's wallet in the bedside drawer, knowing her ID and bank cards were inside.
That's why he visited almost daily, feeling they would meet again.
These encounters were the only times Leonora wasn't guarded against him, the only times she didn't show hostility.
Their eyes met, and seeing the passion in Taylor's gaze, Leonora was about to say something when Taylor also spoke up.
