Even though it was Leonora's first time meeting Taylor's friends, she stayed cool and composed, not letting any jitters show, which spared Taylor from worrying too much.
Taylor, with his arm around her, warmly introduced everyone and then whispered in her ear, "Arielle, take a seat."
Leonora, catching on, sat down between Estrella and Taylor. She hadn't expected Taylor to introduce her as his wife; she thought he’d just say she was his new girlfriend or a colleague from work.
After she sat, Estrella smiled and poured her some juice. "Sister-in-law, don’t be fooled by Taylor’s demeanor; you’re his first love."
"I hope we get to toast at your wedding soon. Wishing you both endless happiness."
Estrella, being a sharp lawyer, could read people better than most. When Taylor walked in with Leonora, she instantly saw how much he liked her. Leonora, on the other hand, seemed a bit wary of him, almost a little scared.
She figured Taylor hadn’t exactly played nice to get Leonora, hence her cautious glances at him.
So, Estrella decided to drop a bombshell, claiming Leonora was Taylor's first love.
Given Taylor's history with girlfriends they’d never met, it didn’t count anyway.
Leonora was caught off guard by Estrella's bluff, her eyes widening in surprise. "Taylor, that romantic? Never noticed."
She couldn’t believe she was Taylor’s first love. It seemed impossible.
Before knowing Taylor personally, she'd heard plenty of gossip about him.
Leonora’s surprise made Estrella laugh. "Exactly, we were just as shocked. So, relax. He'll treat you well. And if he ever mistreats you, I’ll sue him for everything he’s got."
"..." Leonora felt lost.
She couldn’t tell which of Estrella’s words were true and which were jokes.
But Taylor’s friends seemed nice and easy to get along with.
Seeing Leonora a bit dazed, Taylor turned to Estrella and said, "Estrella, my wife isn’t used to this kind of joking; she might take you seriously."
"Mr. Taylor, I’m just giving you a good rep."
After a brief exchange, Taylor leaned over to Leonora, about to ask what she wanted to eat, when she turned to him and asked, "You said I’m simple-minded, so are you calling me dumb?"
Leonora’s deep, clear eyes were enchanting, and Taylor was utterly smitten.
Smiling at her, he replied, "How could I dare call you dumb? Besides, you’re not dumb; you’re incredibly smart."
In Taylor’s eyes, Leonora wasn’t exactly smart since she was completely under his influence. But he couldn’t say that; he had to charm her with sweet nothings.
Taylor complimented her intelligence, and Leonora chuckled dismissively. "Keep flattering."
If she were smart, would she have been entangled with him for two years without any clear outcome? He just picked the right words to say.
Seeing Leonora relaxed and hitting it off with Estrella and Jesse made Taylor secretly happy.
More importantly, he enjoyed the current atmosphere, appreciating that Leonora could stay by his side with his friends, rather than watching them from the sidelines as usual.
After a while, Taylor suggested, "Arielle, take a look at the menu, see if there’s anything else you’d like."
Once Taylor finished speaking, Leonora took the menu, chose a couple of dishes she wanted without any sign of nervousness or undue formality.
