30 Days Till I Divorce My Husband novel Chapter 445

If someone else had raised him, the kid might not have turned out so likable.

Jason credited Estrella for how well Isaac turned out, leaving Keith silent as he kept his focus on the chess game with Isaac. Deep down, Keith knew what Jason was getting at: Isaac's charm was all thanks to Estrella's guidance. Maybe no one else could have done such a stellar job.

Lost in thought, Isaac suddenly warned, "Great-grandpa, you can't move there, or I'll have you cornered again soon."

Taking Isaac's advice to heart, Keith glanced at the board and said, "Right, right, great-grandpa can't move there. Isaac is so smart." Retracting his last move, Keith decided not to overthink it and instead focused on enjoying the game with Isaac.

Around 7 PM, Kristin called, and Jason gently ruffled Isaac's hair. "Son, it's time to head back. Say goodbye to great-grandpa."

Keith, still by the chessboard, heard Jason calling Isaac to leave. He glanced up at Jason and then at the darkening sky outside. He didn't ask Isaac to stay longer, but his eyes were full of reluctance.

Isaac, hearing his father, put down his chess piece and looked up at Keith. "Great-grandpa, I have school tomorrow, so I need to go home now. I'll come play with you when I don't have school."

Isaac's promise gave Keith something to look forward to as he started packing up the chess set. "Great-grandpa will wait for Isaac's holiday."

Jumping down from the chair, Isaac added, "Great-grandpa, you have to be good, eat well, so you can get better quickly."

Keith smiled. "Great-grandpa listens to Isaac."

Soon after, Isaac finished packing up the chess set, and Jason came over with his backpack. "Keith, we're heading back now. Try to get some rest early tonight."

Jason slung the backpack over one shoulder and held Isaac's hand, while Keith, leaning on his cane, stood up. "I reckon I'll be discharged in a few days. See if Isaac can come play at First Mansion over the weekend."

"We'll see! Plus, I'm not that attentive. It was Estrella who reminded me today that you're dealing with heartache, so she suggested I bring Isaac over," Jason replied.

Keith remained silent. He often criticized Jason for his low emotional intelligence, saying he lacked the finesse to comfort others and that even Isaac was better at it. Yet now, Jason was smartly speaking up for his wife.

Watching Jason and Isaac leave the room, Keith didn't share with Jason that he never actually disliked Estrella. His opposition to their union was because of Landon and Cole.

As for the people he'd placed around Estrella, he indeed had, but never gave the final command to harm her. It was all a bluff; he just didn't want them together. Besides, he wasn't foolish. If he truly harmed the girl Jason fought so hard to be with, would Jason ever return to the River family or acknowledge him as his grandpa?

He was angry, indeed, and had thought about eliminating Miss Gu to quench his wrath. But in the end, he remained rational, considering Jason's feelings.

As Jason and Isaac paused at the corridor to say goodbye, Isaac turned to Keith, waving. "Great-grandpa, goodbye. Go rest, and I'll find my own way back with Dad."

Isaac's voice, still sweet and infrequent in conversation, seemed to fill more when he was with Keith, perhaps sensing Keith's loneliness.
