Estrella glanced at the old herbalist, Dr. Tins, with a calm and collected demeanor, resting her wrist gently on the soft, cushioned pulse pad. Dr. Tins's fingers lightly touched her pulse, radiating kindness through his touch. Estrella looked back at him nonchalantly, her expression unreadable, as if she truly was with child, showing no signs of guilt or worry. After a moment, Dr. Tins withdrew his fingers and announced, “My dear, we’re done here.”
Before Estrella could even pull down her sleeve, Edith, who was standing by, blurted out, “Dr. Tins, is she pregnant?” Estrella’s defiant attitude earlier did not seem to match that of someone expecting. Dr. Tins did not directly answer Edith but instead packed away the pulse pad and turned his gaze towards Aiden. Seeing this, Keith, gripping his cane tightly with both hands and furrowing his brows, pressed Dr. Tins, “Doc, what’s the verdict?” Keith seemed even more anxious than Estrella, torn between hoping for her not to be pregnant and the opposite.
After placing the pulse pad into a walnut-colored wooden medicine chest, Dr. Tins calmly stated, “Mr. Keith, this young lady is indeed pregnant but appears to be somewhat weak. I suspect the stresses of work and daily life are taking their toll. I recommend some medication to help her recuperate.”
Pulling down her sleeve slowly, Estrella was plotting her next move with Keith, considering how to sneak Isaac out of the courtyard. Hearing Dr. Tins confirm her pregnancy, she froze. She was pregnant? Was Dr. Tins saying this to ease the tension with Keith, or was she truly expecting?
Meanwhile, Edith's face turned pale, mumbling in disbelief, “She can’t be pregnant. She doesn’t look it.” Ignoring Edith’s disbelief, Dr. Tins calmly reassured Keith, “Mr. Keith, the young lady is indeed with child.” Then, turning to Estrella, he advised, “Miss, you should visit the hospital for a thorough check-up when you have the chance. Have a doctor prescribe you some prenatal vitamins and folic acid.”
Grateful for his kindness, Estrella politely thanked him, “Dr. Tins, I appreciate your help.” Dr. Tins reminded her once more, “Your energy levels are low; don’t overexert yourself and make sure you rest well.” Estrella responded with a thank you, her hand instinctively resting on her abdomen, her mind far from calm.
