30 Days Till I Divorce My Husband novel Chapter 416

Joshua took a deep breath and looked at Estrella, his voice a blend of caution and respect. "Ms. Estrella, Mrs. Ledford passed away in prison this morning."

Estrella paused and slowly set the document in her hands down on the desk.

Two years ago, after Catrina was sentenced, she was allowed out for a successful breast cancer surgery. The doctors had been optimistic, saying with medication, she could have another five to eight years if she kept a positive attitude. But how could someone who had been set in her ways for a lifetime suddenly find peace in confinement?

After a moment of thoughtful silence, Estrella simply said, "I understand."

Once Joshua left, closing the door behind him, Estrella was left alone with her thoughts.

She was nearing thirty and hadn’t attended many funerals. The elders in her and Jason’s families were still healthy, and their friends Cole and Autumn were young.

Catrina was from their parents’ generation.

Korey must be heartbroken. Even with his position, he hadn't used it to give her any special treatment or spare her from her fate.

At Catrina’s funeral, Estrella and Jason were there, along with Grayson Bryce and the Lamont siblings. Paula’s son was now two years old.

Jesse, who was pregnant, couldn't attend.

The funeral was somber. Korey remained composed while Holly continuously dabbed at her eyes with a handkerchief. Both siblings were still unmarried, and that likely weighed heavily on Catrina.

After the service, Estrella and Jesse went out to eat. Jesse was glowing, her pregnancy adding a new radiance to her.

As they sat across from each other, Jesse mused, "Catrina wasn’t even sixty, was she? Her passing was so sudden."

Before Estrella could respond, Jesse continued, "That’s why you and Jason should remarry soon and think about having a second child. Life just flies by."

Jesse’s insistence was almost comical, hinting that if life were indeed short, they were already halfway through theirs.

Estrella served the soup, teasing, "You and Bryce have it all figured out, don’t you? Everything just fell into place."

Jesse grinned with mock seriousness, "Some of us are just lucky, I guess."

Everyone had thought Jesse and Bryce would be a headache, wondering when they’d ever get married and have kids.

Yet, they sorted it out and, before hitting thirty, were expecting their second child, leaving friends like Grayson Taylor and Thomas behind.

Their marriage was enviable—never a cross word, always united. Bryce managed both his and Jesse’s financial affairs, ready to defend her honor at a moment's notice, as she did for him.

After discussing their situation, Jesse turned the conversation back to Estrella and Jason, eagerly awaiting their reconciliation.
