Joshua took a deep breath and looked at Estrella, his voice a blend of caution and respect. "Ms. Estrella, Mrs. Ledford passed away in prison this morning."

Estrella paused and slowly set the document in her hands down on the desk.

Two years ago, after Catrina was sentenced, she was allowed out for a successful breast cancer surgery. The doctors had been optimistic, saying with medication, she could have another five to eight years if she kept a positive attitude. Their marriage was enviable—never a cross word, always united. Bryce managed both his and Jesse’s financial affairs, ready to defend her honor at a moment's notice, as she did for him.

After discussing their situation, Jesse turned the conversation back to Estrella and Jason, eagerly awaiting their reconciliation.
