The conversation had reached a point where Estrella felt it would be rude not to go along. Smiling, she turned to Isaac and said, "Alright, I'll come with you."

With those words, Jason walked over to the car and opened the back door for Estrella and Isaac.

Half an hour later, when they got to Jason's house, Kristin was already gone.

As she changed her shoes, Estrella asked, "Did Mom go home?"

Holding Isaac while he changed his shoes too, Jason replied, "Dad called this afternoon, so she left early."

Estrella then mentioned, "You haven't eaten yet, have you?"

Putting Isaac down, Jason said, "I'll grab something quick later."

Their casual chat was just like that of any typical couple who knew each other well.

At that moment, Isaac wiggled out of Jason's arms and darted towards the toy area, bringing back a checkers set while grinning at Jason.

Seeing this, Jason rolled up his shirt sleeves and said, "Wash your hands first."

"Okay," Isaac cheerily agreed, scampering off to the restroom.

Having stayed over recently, Isaac had come to see Jason's place as a second home, familiar and comforting.

After washing his hands, Isaac returned to the living room to find Jason already waiting by the checkers board. Isaac sat cross-legged across from him, a wide smile on his face.

In the dining area, seeing the duo's enthusiasm for their game, Estrella let out a resigned chuckle before heading to the fridge to prepare some fruit for them.

Meanwhile, she settled down in the living room to watch some TV.

After a while, glancing at the clock which now showed it was eight, Estrella noticed Jason was still deeply engaged in the game with Isaac, showing no signs of stopping for food. She stood up, unhurriedly, and made her way to the kitchen.

Opening the fridge, she found some of Kristin's prepared meals in containers. Choosing a couple, she warmed them in the microwave, then took out some frozen dumplings Kristin had made and started boiling them.

While cooking wasn't her forte, Estrella was confident in her ability to make simple meals like dumplings or pasta.

As the dumplings floated to the top, signaling they were done, Estrella turned to the living room and called out, "Honey, Daddy hasn't eaten yet. Let him have dinner first."

"Okay," Isaac replied without looking away from the board, focused on his next move.

It wasn't until he placed his piece that he looked up at Jason and said, "Daddy, let's eat."
