30 Days Till I Divorce My Husband novel Chapter 400

Estrella was finally out of the hospital, and Jason found himself busier than ever. But despite the hustle, he felt a hollowness inside, a void because he couldn't spend his days by Estrella's side like before.

Every now and then, the thought of letting Estrella go, of her possibly moving on to someone new, made him feel like he was suffocating. But he convinced himself that maybe it was for the best.

After taking a couple of days off to rest and hang out with Isaac, Estrella got back into her work routine at the company. Her role was the same, but her workload had seriously lightened. Cole, her dad, had returned to the company too, and now they were running the business together.

Cole, who was still a few years shy of sixty, was considered young in the business world. After a meeting, Cole called Estrella into his office. Once they wrapped up discussing work, Cole took off his glasses and, with a serious tone, said, “Estrella, I’ve been thinking. I realize I wasn’t thoughtful before. I shouldn’t have left you to manage the company alone, bearing so much responsibility and overlooking your dreams.”

Trying to lighten the mood, Estrella gently patted his arm and smiled, “Dad, it’s okay. I just didn’t balance things well. But I’m really happy you’re back.”

Despite her comforting words, Cole felt even worse. He knew Estrella was the one who had been most affected. She had silently watched the drama, shouldered the most responsibility, comforted everyone, and managed their emotions. But who was there to manage hers? Who could she confide in?

She hadn’t even had a proper conversation with Landon about the past, and Landon owed her an apology for giving her up to be raised by someone else.

With a heavy heart, Cole said, “Estrella, if you still want to be a lawyer, I support you. The company can wait until you’re ready to come back.”

Estrella smiled at his words, understanding he must have been thinking a lot over the past few days to bring this up. “Okay, I’ll think about it and let you know once I’ve decided,” she replied, looking at Cole.

After spending two years back in the hustle and bustle of the company, adjusting to the busy lifestyle and handling various aspects of the business had become second nature to her.

Their conversation moved on, and Estrella reassured Cole not to worry too much, promising she would balance work and life better and prioritize rest. This somewhat eased Cole’s mind.

Estrella then returned to her work. Having rested in the hospital for a few days, she felt reenergized. The reduced workload allowed her some spare time to go over case files from thirty years ago.

In the evening, while still at work, her phone rang. It was Jason.

Upon answering, Estrella, flipping through files, asked, “What’s up?”

On the other end, Jason sounded exasperated, “Estrella, you’ve just been discharged, and it’s your first day back at work. Take it easy.”

Glancing at the time on her computer, which read 5:40 PM, Estrella replied, “It’s still early. I'll leave at six.”

Jason then mentioned he was waiting downstairs. Estrella couldn’t help but sigh in resignation before hanging up the phone, quickly wrapping up her work before heading down.

Jason had been waiting in his car, occasionally glancing at his phone. Upon seeing Estrella approach, he brightened up and got out to open the passenger door for her, mentioning, “Mom picked up Isaac today.”
