The morning after, Erik woke up feeling like he'd been hit by a truck. Clothes were strewn everywhere—on the bed, the floor—and Bryce was lying next to him, stark naked.
Bryce? How on earth did Bryce end up in bed with him?
Sure, they were as close as two peas in a pod and had shared a room before, but nothing like this had ever happened. They'd never even taken their shirts off around each other, let alone anything else.
But what was happening now?
Feeling all kinds of wrong, Erik's mind was racing.
After a fierce mental battle and seeing Bryce still dead to the world, Erik kicked him hard in the side. "Bryce, wake the hell up."
The kick sent Bryce tumbling to the floor.
Rubbing his eyes and looking utterly baffled, Bryce mumbled, "What's up, dude?"
They'd had plenty of wild nights, getting hammered and ending up crashing at the same place, but their friends never really dwelled on the fact they were different genders. They were just Erik and Bryce, practically joined at the hip since childhood.
But it seemed they had seriously miscalculated last night.
With a face full of confusion, Erik, his short hair practically bristling with anger, demanded, "Bryce, did you sleep with me last night?"
Bryce, now fully awake, protested, "No way. I'd never mess up that bad. I'd never go there with you or Estrella. You guys are like brothers to me, especially with your buzz cut."
As Bryce scrambled to his feet, Erik, noticing his unabashed nudity, felt her cheeks burn.
Seeing Erik's flushed face, Bryce glanced down at himself and turned equally red before quickly retreating to the bathroom.
When they reconvened in the living room, the air was thick with awkwardness.
Bryce, scratching his head and looking sheepish, said, "Look, I don't wanna dodge responsibility here, but I genuinely have no clue what went down last night. I was pretty wasted, can't remember a thing."
"So, I really don't know if something happened or not. Did you...? I mean, if I did something, I'll own up to it."
