As she spoke, she snatched the half-eaten dried plum from Sylvia's hand. She popped it into her mouth, and her brows instantly shot up. "Why is this so sour?"
Sylvia looked up. "Do I really have to get down to a hundred pounds?"
Normally, Sylvia hovered around a hundred and five pounds. It was only the pregnancy that had caused the slight weight gain.
Penelope scoffed. "I was doing you a favor by not demanding ninety-five. Do you want to look bloated on camera? Anyway, since we have some free time right now, let's hit the boutiques and pick out a dress for the red carpet."

They headed to an established luxury boutique. Ashton used to custom-order plenty of clothes here, and Sylvia had visited a few times before, so the boutique manager still remembered her.
Inside the grand, opulent store, the glass display cases were lined with the latest designs. The warm, golden lighting washed over the fabrics, making them look as if they were dusted with liquid gold.
An off-white A-line evening gown with a sweeping train caught the eye, radiating an ethereal, extravagant elegance. The skirt draped naturally, cascading like running water.
Sylvia fell in love with it instantly.
More importantly, the gown's waistline wasn't overly restrictive; it had a slight, airy volume to it, reminiscent of a princess dress.
"This is our latest summer evening gown from fashion week," the manager introduced.
"I'd like to try this one on."
"I love this one."
Two voices rang out in unison.
At some point, Reina and Ashton had walked into the boutique.
The moment Sylvia saw them, her breath hitched. The humiliation from that day came rushing back. They were the absolute last two people she wanted to see right now.
Penelope's eyes widened in shock, her gaze darting in disbelief between Sylvia and Ashton.
Penelope stood nervously on the sidelines, completely silent. She couldn't understand how things had spiraled so out of control, or how two people who had once been so deeply in love were now at each other's throats.
Ashton was blatantly favoring another woman just to humiliate Sylvia.
The scene was horribly familiar, and horribly cruel. Penelope had endured similar humiliation in the past. Ashton had always treated women with a cold, merciless detachment, but she never imagined he would subject Sylvia to the same treatment.
They had once been so in love.
Sylvia's face betrayed no sorrow. She calmly turned her attention to another gown—a vibrant, burgundy slip dress. The back featured a triangular cutout that perfectly accentuated the spine, radiating raw, seductive glamour.
If she could walk the red carpet in this dress, she would definitely command the spotlight.
Penelope chimed in. "How about trying this one on?"
Sylvia nodded. Just as she was about to ask the associate to bring it to the fitting room, Reina's voice rang out again: "I want this one."
