She had only blocked his phone number earlier, completely forgetting to block his messaging app. This was the perfect time to fix that.
The fact that Ashton actually thought she would return to that so-called home was utterly laughable to Sylvia.
How completely shameless would she have to be to crawl back to him?
Sylvia still vividly remembered the cruel words he had spat at her—If I say I don't like you, I don't like you. Who said I ever cared?
He had utterly and completely invalidated the entire three years they had spent together.
All the passionate romance, all the sweet promises, all their deeply intertwined history—it was all completely worthless in the end.
It couldn't hold a candle to his casual declaration that he didn't care.
Tears pricked the corners of Sylvia's eyes again, and this time, she didn't bother holding them back.
During the day, she could be cold, calculated, and strong in making her decisions, but she couldn't be invincible all the time. She had a vulnerable side too, and more often than not, she just desperately wanted a shoulder to lean on when the pain became unbearable.
Her phone rang. It was an unknown number, but when she answered, she was surprised to hear a familiar voice.
"Dr. Sterling?"
Sylvia was genuinely caught off guard.
Dr. Sterling's gentle, composed voice filtered through the speaker, his tone incredibly soothing and deeply magnetic.
"Did the filming go well?"
Sylvia's breath hitched slightly. She was just about to ask how he got her number when she remembered she had filled it out on her hospital intake forms.
Her voice was still slightly hoarse from crying as she offered a soft response. "It went fine."
"Getting replaced counts as going fine?" he shot back with unexpected sharpness.
She completely lost track of time until a small, quiet yawn slipped out, catching his attention.
"It's late, you should get some rest. Remember to come in for your checkup tomorrow."
Sylvia was just about to agree when Dr. Sterling casually added a stark medical reminder.
"By the way, you are aware of the rule about no intimacy during the first trimester, correct?"
"Yes, I know," Sylvia replied, flushing with deep embarrassment.
But thankfully, after having a good cry and a pleasant chat with Dr. Sterling, her mood had vastly improved.
She glanced at the bouquet of roses sitting on the nightstand, leaning down to take a deep sniff. She figured she could actually get a good night's sleep tonight.
Just then, a sharp knock echoed from the door.
