Sylvia asked again, "Are you coming back tonight? I had Mabel save you some of that chicken soup you love."
Julian let out a soft laugh. "You go ahead and have it. The hospital director just asked me to go on a business trip. I really can't get out of it, and I have to leave tonight. I'll probably be gone for two or three days."
Sylvia's breathing hitched, her chest tightening. "Okay, but please, make sure you take care of yourself."
"I will. You take care of yourself at home, too. If your schedule gets too exhausting, just take a break."
"I know."
The moment Julian ended the call, Sylvia's tears spilled over.
She was almost certain he was injured.
Otherwise, with an incident like that happening at the hospital, there was no way the director would be worrying about sending him on a business trip.
But Sylvia hadn't called him out on his lie. She didn't want him to feel obligated to comfort her when he was the one in pain.
She immediately began searching the news online, eventually stumbling upon a blurry video. In the footage, a woman lunged at a doctor with a knife. A tall, lean doctor stepped in to block her mid-strike, and blood could be seen dripping down the blade.
A voice in the video quickly yelled, "Stop filming..."
The comment section was swarming with speculation:
"Thank God someone stepped in to block it, otherwise that would have been horrific."
"Is that doctor's hand okay? A surgeon's livelihood depends on having golden hands. If there's nerve damage, his career is over."
"Holy crap, that looks like a senior colleague from my med school. He published a ton of research papers abroad and then moved back here. My mentor was always talking about him."
"Is that woman out of her mind? Even if you have a medical dispute, you can't just do that..."
Not long after, the video was taken down.

Over the weekend, Ashton returned to the Wyatt estate for dinner, and Reina was there as well.
Eleanor was extremely fond of Reina and often invited her over to keep her company.
When Eleanor reached the living room, Ashton was sitting there with his legs crossed, his expression already darkening.
"So? What do you want me to do about it?"
"What does it matter if I'm involved or not? Do you even have a choice?"
The voice on the other end clearly belonged to a furious woman.
"If you have a problem, come at me! Stop dragging innocent people into this!"
A faint hint of mockery flashed in Ashton's eyes. "Come at you? Do you really think you could handle it?"
"The worst that happens to Mercy Hospital is a little hit to their reputation. Why are you so panicked over the Sterlings' losses? You're taking their side before you're even married into the family?"
The woman forced her emotions down, taking a deep breath. "That's none of your business. Are you going to stop or not?"
Ashton's gaze was ice-cold, completely devoid of mercy. "If you want me to stop, you know exactly what you have to do."
