Sloane dragged her feet until eleven o'clock that night before finally walking out with her suitcase.
Ever since she began her residency at General Hospital, she had been living in the staff dormitories.-
Stepping out of the hospital's main entrance, she stood on the curb to hail a ride. Suddenly, a luxury electric SUV swerved aggressively and stopped right in front of her.
The window rolled down, revealing the smirking face of a man in his thirties. "Sloane, get in!" he barked.
Sloane's grip tightened around the handle of her suitcase.
The man was Tristan York, the hospital director's son and Capital City's most notorious playboy. He was a sleazy opportunist who had harassed Sloane multiple times when she first started her residency.
Seeing that she wasn't moving, Tristan slammed on the accelerator, cutting off her path completely before leaping out of the vehicle.
"W-What do you think you're doing?" Sloane asked, her voice trembling slightly as he closed the distance between them.
There were security cameras everywhere. Surely he wouldn't try anything stupid?
Tristan sneered, "I heard you went to the registration bureau today to draw a husband."
"That is none of your business."
He took another menacing step forward. "If you were going to settle for some random loser, why didn't you consider me? Aren't you terrified you just married some hideous freak?"
Sloane turned her face away to avoid his foul breath, throwing the Global Fertility Association's propaganda right back at him. "Romance without the intent of reproduction is a crime against the state!"
"I can get you pregnant! The mandate says that as long as you have a kid, you don't have to pay the tax, whether you're married or not. It's a win-win for both of us."
Sloane's hands shook with absolute rage.
This scumbag didn't just want to use her body for free; he wanted to use her to bypass the system for a kid!
Not wanting to waste another breath on him, she glared fiercely. "Get out of my way!"
Tristan didn't budge.
Panic flaring, Sloane shoved him.
Instead of backing off, Tristan lunged forward, grabbing her roughly and trying to drag her toward his car.
"You just want to dodge the singles tax, right? I promise I'll knock you up on the first try!"
"Stop fighting me! I ran a background check. Your parents abandoned you, your grandmother passed away, and no one is coming to save you!"
