Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 9

Sloane sat in the customer lounge at Panda Auto Works, a steaming mug of black tea Logan had poured for her cradled in her hands.

As she sipped the warm drink, her eyes kept wandering back to him through the massive glass window.

He popped the hood of the vehicle, leaning his powerful frame over the engine block as he expertly stripped a faulty component with a drill and replaced it. His movements were swift, precise, and completely confident.

A smudge of dark grease stained his long fingers, and his sleeves were rolled up over his thick, muscular forearms, highlighting the heavy flex of his biceps with every turn of the wrench.

For the past decade, the only men Sloane had interacted with were high-strung, academic intellectuals. Watching a rugged, physically dominant man like Logan effortlessly handle heavy machinery sent an unfamiliar, thrilling jolt of attraction straight to her core.

Her mind instantly flashed back to the glistening, sculpted chest she had seen in the bathroom that morning...

She abruptly tore her gaze away, staring hard at her tea.

"You must be Sloane!"

She turned toward the booming voice.

A tall, lanky man bounded over with a massive grin on his face. "I'm Zane Shepherd, the owner of this joint."

Panda Auto Works was one of Capital City's premier autonomous vehicle service hubs, managing massive fleets of self-driving rentals. Logan was clearly their lead diagnostician.

Sloane quickly stood up and shook his hand.

"It's nice to meet you, Mr. Shepherd!"

Zane gave her an approving look. "That lucky bastard. I can't believe Logan managed to bag a gorgeous doctor!"

"You're too kind," Sloane replied, never having considered herself particularly beautiful.

Zane leaned in, gesturing subtly toward the garage bay. "So, does he live up to the hype? Ruggedly handsome, brilliantly educated, effortlessly charismatic?"

"..." Sloane blinked, completely taken aback. How did he know exactly what the bio said?

Zane burst out laughing. "I wrote that arrogant profile for him! Before I got my hands on it, his bio basically said he was boring, antisocial, and pissed people off easily. He sat in the registration system for a whole month and no one touched him. One little rewrite from me, and boom—you snatched him up!"

It all made sense now.
