Underwater: The Silent Luna
Chapter 51
Amber wasn’t finished. Her bitterness was a bottomless pit, and Meadow was the easiest target.
“I also do not like that my sons fought because of you,” Amber said sharply, eyes narrowing with accusation. “I do not know what you have been telling Ethan or how you have been manipulating him, but it has to stop.”
Meadow’s fingers tightened in her lap.
Her heart sank.
She hadn’t told Ethan anything, nothing except the truth when he asked for it. She hadn’t manipulated him. She barely spoke at all
She had simply existed.
But Amber wanted a villain.
And Meadow was convenient.
“When I went to your family,” Amber continued, her voice dripping with disdain, “your mother said you were a nice girl. She said
you would be grateful for the opportunity. She promised me you would do everything I commanded, diligently. She understood that I
was doing you a favour.”
Meadow swallowed hard.
Her eyes stung, but she didn’t cry.
Amber’s words were knives dipped in poison.
“People like you live and die alone,” Amber said coldly. “It is an honour for you to be with my son.”
Victoria’s mouth fell open in outrage.
Meadow sat silently, absorbing the blow.
“I don’t like the way you’re turning Ethan against us,” Amber continued. “First he fought me, then his stepfather, then his brother.
All because of you. This nonsense has to stop. Am I clear?”
Meadow nodded.
Not because she agreed.
Not because Amber was right.
But because she didn’t have the strength, or the voice, to argue.

Chapter 51
And Ethan wasn’t here to shield her.
“Good,” Amber said. “Ashely would never bow to you.”
Her words dripped with venom, aimed to hit bone.
She believed Meadow was pretending to be helpless. She was convinced her son was being manipulated. She wanted to warn
Meadow to stop causing “problems” between her sons: As if Meadow had the power to cause fights between Alphas.
Then Amber leaned forward, her tone cutting deeper.
“How long will you need to get pregnant? Because that is all I want from you right now.”
Meadow looked up in shock.
Amber smiled bitterly.
“I can always get Ethan another nanny,” she said.
Ashley chuckled under her breath at the insult.
Victoria’s hands curled into fists.
She could not believe the cruelty spilling out of Amber’s mouth.
How could Meadow endure this?
How could she keep nodding, bowing, remaining small?
Amber wasn’t done.
“I will cut you loose once you’ve given me grandbabies,” she said. “You won’t have to remain the wife of the crippled Alpha. Isn’t
that a sweet deal?”
Something broke inside Meadow.
A hot, sharp anger sparked deep in her belly, anger she didn’t know she could feel this strongly.
She shook her head vehemently.
Amber’s eyes widened.
She had not expected defiance.
“Translate,” Amber snapped at Victoria.

Chapter 51
Victoria’s heart thudded violently. She didn’t know what Meadow was about to say, and she was frightened, terrified that one fong
word could get Meadow punished.
But Meadow looked at her, eyes blazing, hands shaking with rage.
“I do not want to be free of my husband,” she signed fiercely. “And he is not a cripple.”
Her signs came out rushed, almost messy from emotion, but clear:
Victoria swallowed hard, panic flickering in her chest.
Amber’s expression tightened.
“I said translate,” Amber repeated, voice icy.
Victoria inhaled unsteadily and, before she could lose her courage, blurted out Meadow’s exact words.
Amber went still.
Her eyes widened, not in anger… but in shock.
“You, do you know what you are saying?” Amber asked, stunned. She stared at Meadow as if seeing her for the first time. The girl
who never protested. The girl who bowed. The girl who stayed quiet.
Yet here she was defending Ethan.
Refusing freedom.
Calling him her husband.
And rejecting the word cripple with fury burning through her hands.
Amber studied her carefully.
Ethan did not tolerate anyone calling Meadow “mute.”
And now Meadow was refusing to tolerate anyone calling Ethan “cripple.”
Had the two somehow found comfort in each other’s arms?
Had they, impossibly, grown attached?
Is this what had softened Ethan all week?
Is this why Meadow’s eyes shone with something resembling devotion?

Chapter 51
Amber had no answer.
She leaned back, examining Meadow like a puzzle.
“You want to stay with Ethan?” she finally asked.
Meadow nodded once.
Amber blinked.
“Are you sure?” she pressed, disbelief thick in her voice. “I thought you were distraught when you found out who you were married
to.”
She still remembered that day, how Meadow cried in her office, overwhelmed, heartbroken, terrified.
Yet here she stood now, spine straight, hands steady, eyes fierce.
Something had changed.
And Amber was desperate to understand what.
