Underwater: The Silent Luna novel Chapter 265

Chapter 265

“Meadow is the best thing that ever happened to me, Cynthia. Besides, your information is wrong. I would have let her go, but she insisted on staying with me. For the first time, I met a woman that wanted me for me and did not see my disability. It is called love,

Cynthia, something you are incapable of.” Ethan said.

Cynthia’s face tightened, but he continued.

“Besides, I doubt this Alpha of yours is interested in you. Otherwise, you would know his name, and he would be here. You seem more like a lackey than a mate. I must commend your determination. You would rather be a slave to be Luna than be free and remain an ordinary pack member. Even if I were single, you would never be my choice,” Ethan told her.

Cynthia growled at him.

His words cut deep. Very deep. They struck every insecurity she had been pretending not to feel since the Alpha called her. Lackey. Slave. Not a mate. The words sounded too close to the fear she had refused to name. She hid her hurt and smiled at him.

“I won’t take offence,” Cynthia said.

She stood up and left Ethan’s room, returning to Amber’s wing where she had allocated a room for herself. She knew she could not get the brothers to trust her, but she had to try because she was scared of what her boss would do. The Alpha had given her a task. If she failed too obviously, she did not know what punishment would follow. And unlike Sebastien, the Alpha did not need to raise his hand to make her feel small.

Meadow and Victoria arrived at the mansion, and they were surrounded at the entrance immediately.

Meadow had expected this to happen, but she had hoped otherwise. The sight of the warriors closing in around them made her body tighten, but she did not panic. She had been through enough to know panic wasted energy. Victoria, on the other hand, wanted to fight back immediately. Meadow saw it in the way her friend’s body shifted, the way her eyes sharpened, the way her hands curled as if ready to strike.

Meadow remembered the plan and signed that Victoria should relax.

Normally, Meadow would have fought back. She was stronger than most of these warriors would ever guess. She knew that now. She could feel her body waking again in ways she had hidden from the world. But she had to control her temper. Fighting at the entrance would only expose them before Ethan was fully ready. It would make Cynthia take them seriously too early. So Meadow lowered her hands and let the guards believe they had power over her.

The guards clamped silver cuffs on their wrists and waited for Cynthia’s orders.

The burn of silver bit into Meadow’s skin, and she swallowed the pain. Victoria hissed softly beside her, but she did not fight. Her eyes stayed on Meadow, trusting her even though every instinct in her wanted to resist.

“Your mute wife and her friend are at the entrance, and I am about to have them locked up. Let me know when you want to discuss my terms That will determine if I will harm her or not,” Cynthia linked Ethan.

Chapter 265

Ethan became mad.

The anger hit him so hard that his hand tightened on the arm of his chair. He knew Meadow must have allowed herself to be

captured. He also knew they would not win if they fought now. That knowledge did nothing to ease the rage of hearing Cynthia

threaten his wife. His wife. His mate. The one person whose safety had become tied to his breath.

Ethan had to swallow his pride to buy them time. All he needed was a strong alliance, an army, and his legs. Echo was working

overtime to fix them. Ethan could feel it every day, every hour, that restless healing beneath his skin. But he was not ready yet. Not

fully. So he needed patience, even when patience tasted like blood.

“Let her go. Cynthia. She is of no threat to you. Let her go, and you have my full cooperation,” Ethan linked Cynthia back quickly, not wanting his wife to experience any form of discomfort.

He knew that would make him sound weak, but it was necessary for their plan to succeed. Let Cynthia believe Meadow was / harmless. Let her believe Ethan could be bent through his wife. Let her believe she had found his leash. Sometimes pretending to be weak was the only way to reach the throat of a stronger enemy.

Cynthia laughed where she lay on the bed and linked the men surrounding Meadow and Victoria to let them go.

Meadow’s reluctance to defend herself made Cynthia believe Meadow was incapable of fighting back. It also meant she had nothing to worry about where the young Luna was concerned. Her main focus would be Ethan and Joseph. Meadow was just the mute wife. Pretty, perhaps. Useful as leverage, perhaps. But not dangerous.

That was exactly what Meadow needed her to believe.

Meanwhile, Joseph was already trying to reach out to Alpha Malcolm. He needed to find out what was going on in Ceenas. They needed to form an alliance, but he wanted to ensure they could trust Malcolm before he proposed the offer. Every wrong alliance now could kill them. Every careless message could reach the wrong ears. But if Malcolm hated Sebastien enough, if Ceenas was unstable enough, and if the hidden Alpha had made the mistake of splitting his pieces, then Whitewood might still have a fighting

chance.
