Chapter 253
Agnes looked at Levi as if she had seen the sun. The change in her face was immediate and painful to watch. Her anger softened into longing, and the years she had carried in bitterness seemed to gather in her eyes. Levi looked around the room, and when his
gaze reached Meadow, he saw the scorn on her face.
He knew then that he needed to come clean.
There was really nothing to hide anymore. The secret had sat between too many people for too long. Agnes had used it. Meadow had feared it. Levi had carried it. Now it was standing inside Amber’s hospital room while Amber lay unconscious, and whatever dignity Levi thought he was protecting had already been dragged into the light.
sulted.
“They want to pay me, Levi. They asked to give me money so you can remain with her,” Agnes said in tears, feeling insulted.
Levi closed his eyes briefly.
“As if money is everything. You left me for money, and now they want me to give up on you for it,” Agnes said.
Levi shook his head. He had always known Agnes had twisted thoughts about his relationship with Amber, but hearing it said aloud in front of Ethan, Joseph, Meadow, Victoria, and Dr Rosenberg made it worse. It was time to set it straight. He knew everyone might hate him after he revealed his secrets, but he could not hide it anymore. As long as Amber was all right, he was fine. That was the only thing that mattered now.
“Amber did not buy me, Agnes. I do not know how you got that into your head, but you must take it out,” Levi said.
His voice was tired, but firm.
“Cain and I loved her from the academy, but she said no to me and yes to him, and that was how I had to stop chasing after her. When he was killed, my duty as his Beta was to ensure the wolves did not come in and take over his family’s legacy,” Levi
continued.
Joseph lowered his gaze. Ethan watched him closely. Meadow listened, still tense, but silent.
“Amber wouldn’t have been able to handle it alone, and the boys were too young for that kind of atmosphere. My marriage to Amber wasn’t planned. It just happened. We spent so much time together that we didn’t want to be apart anymore. It is called love, Agnes. That was why I married her,” Levi said.
Agnes’s face hardened, but the tears kept falling.
“For the seventeen years we have been together, I have never taken money from the McClouds. I have survived on my family’s money and my business. So do not say it is about money,” he added.
Agnes was silent.
But silence did not mean surrender.

Chapter 253
“Still, you have to honour your promise, or I will tell them everything,” Agnes linked him with a threat.
One thing Agnes did not know was that Levi was ready to confess. She had held the secret over his head for so long that it had become a heavy burden on him. She had used it to control him and make him do things he did not want to do. He had spent years trying to keep her calm, keep Amber ignorant, keep the girl protected, keep his own shame buried. But he was tired now. He was prepared to let it out and ease himself of the burden, whatever the cost might be.
He was ready to be free.
Levi began to laugh.
Everyone wondered what was so funny. The sound did not fit the room. Not with Amber unconscious. Not with Agnes crying. No with Meadow watching him like she had remembered every reason not to trust him. But Levi laughed because the threat had finally
lost its teeth.
“At this point, I do not care anymore. Let the truth be out there,” Levi said.
Agnes looked surprised that he was ready to spill. She realised her words must have driven him to the edge.
“If Meadow could talk, I would have asked her to say it,” Levi said.
He looked at Meadow, ready to use his Alpha command, but something in him stopped. Maybe guilt. Maybe the knowledge that he had already done enough damage to that young woman’s peace. He did not need to command her now.
“Four years ago, you saw me. You saw us,” Levi said, looking at Meadow, “and I dared you never to speak of it. Today I offer you your freedom. You can tell your husband what you saw. I no longer feel the need to hide my secret anymore. There was no time it wouldn’t have been in the open,” he said.
Meadow felt a knot loosen inside her.
It was as if a force had been lifted. Not because he had truly compelled her voice away, but because fear had sat inside that memory for years like a silent hand around her throat. Levi had frightened her then, and the fear had obeyed him longer than it should have. Hearing him release her now made the memory shift. It did not disappear, but it no longer felt sealed shut.
Ethan figured out what had just happened and looked at Levi scornfully.
“You were the bastard that compelled her not to speak!” Ethan asked.
Levi needed clarification immediately.
“I didn’t compel her not to speak, Ethan. Stop jumping to conclusions. She was already mute by then. Meadow has been mute since she was four,” Levi said.
Ethan’s anger remained, but he held back enough to listen.
“She saw Agnes and me together four years ago. She saw us kissing by my car during night-time. I believe she was strolling past the

area where the hotel was. We had just left the place, and I was taking Agnes to the bus station so she could go home. I was
apparently having an affair, and Meadow saw us, so I told her to be silent,” Levi said.
Meadow’s fingers tightened slightly on her lap.
“I didn’t want Meadow to tell anyone because I wasn’t having an affair out of my free will. Agnes had been blackmailing me with our daughter, and I did not want to give Amber up or hurt her, so I tried to do damage control by keeping Agnes happy so she would
be silent,” Levi said.
Agnes’s tears became heavier.
“Agnes got pregnant without informing me seventeen years ago. I only found out when I went back to tell her it was over between us and I was with your mother. She was six months pregnant when I saw her, but by then, Amber and I had claimed each other, so Agnes became my secret,” Levi confessed.
The room went still.
“I couldn’t tell Amber. I knew she would be hurt, and she was yet to recover from Cain’s death, so I kept it and dealt with it the best way I could. It wasn’t like Agnes and I were serious before then. I believe she got pregnant deliberately to trap me,” he confessed.
Agnes began to cry.
