Chapter 235
Meadow looked at Amber and felt a pain she did not expect to feel so sharply. This woman had forced her into a marriage and ye! somehow had also placed her in the arms of her fated. This woman had carried secrets that hurt everyone and yet had been dying
under secrets forced into her body by another hand. There were too many layers of pain here. Meadow did not know what to forgive
and what to hold. So she simply prayed in her heart that Amber would live long enough for all of them to figure it out.
Dr Rosenberg stepped in, and Victoria was asked to wait outside while the doctor discussed the Luna with her family. Victoria did
not like leaving Meadow, but she understood enough not to argue. This was a family matter. A medical matter. A dangerous matter.
She went outside and moved away from the room so she would not feel the need to eavesdrop on their conversation. Eavesdropping would be inevitable if she stayed too close because she would definitely hear some of the things they were saying in close proximity.
And if she heard something she was not supposed to know, she knew herself well enough to know she would not carry it calmly.
Inside the room, Dr Rosenberg explained everything he had discovered to the Alphas and Meadow. He spoke carefully but did not soften the truth. Amber’s blood had contained traces of toxic substances earlier, but the later tests showed her blood was now clear of them. That meant the poison was no longer actively present in her system at the hospital. It meant treatment had helped, but it also confirmed the fear that whatever had been harming her was connected to her environment at home. The toxins were gone, but
the damage they had caused remained.
The liver was still the issue. That was where the real battle lay now. Her body was no longer being fed the same poison, but her liver had taken too much damage over time. It was failing. They still needed a donor. A compatible donor with the right blood type and the right wolf strength. Dr Rosenberg did not pretend it would be easy. No one in that room needed lies disguised as comfort. They had enough lies around them already.
The doctor eventually left the brothers and Meadow in Amber’s room to attend to other patients. He had hardly left when Levi
returned.
Joseph looked at him scornfully, and Ethan did not spare him either. The energy in the room changed the moment Levi entered. Whatever concern might have softened them before had been replaced by suspicion, Levi noticed it immediately. He was tired, his face drawn, his movements heavier than usual, but he was not too tired to recognise animosity when it was directed at him.
“Where were you?” Ethan asked his stepfather.
Levi was confused. He did not know what had transpired while he was away to cause this level of hostility from the brothers. He looked from Ethan to Joseph, then to Meadow, then towards Amber on the bed. Nothing had changed outwardly. Amber was still there, still breathing, still in the same terrible sleep. But Ethan’s voice carried accusation, and Joseph’s eyes looked ready for
violence,
“What is the meaning of this?” Levi asked.
Joseph wanted to punch him in the face. The urge rose quickly, hot and hard. He imagined his fist hitting Levi’s mouth, imagined demanding answers until the man bled them out. He was angry because Levi had left Amber. Angry because poison had been found in her system. Angry because his mother had been vulnerable, and the one person who should have sat beside her had walked away for reasons he had not bothered to explain.

Chapter 235
“I swear if I find out that you are behind this, I will kill you,” Joseph said.
Levi looked genuinely confused. Not insulted. Not defensive at first. Confused. He looked at Amber lying peacefully on the bed and seemed to wonder what Joseph might possibly be accusing him of.
“Behind what?” he asked gently.
Levi was tired. He had been busy throughout and just wanted to rest, but he did not want to go home while Amber was still in the hospital. He had returned to her as soon as he could, and instead of finding concern, he had walked into suspicion
